Adoración Peñas points out that in the list of 128 educational centers in the region with fiber cement roofs released by the Ministry, only two from Lorca appear: The Official School of Languages ​​and the IES "Pérez Casas"

As a result of an initiative of the trade union CC.OO, requiring the Ministry of Education detailed information on the number and identification of schools in the Region of Murcia that have covers of fiber cement-and therefore with asbestos-, we have been able to know that this educational administration has knowledge of at least 128 centers distributed throughout the Murcian geography that present this dangerous material among its constructive elements.

In the relationship provided to the union, Adoration Peñas points, there are two centers in Lorca: the Official School of Languages ​​and the IES "Bartolomé Pérez Casas", but they could be more.

With this information, released at the end of last May, the councilor of IU-V has demanded this morning the Councilor for Education of the City of Lorca to get down to work, to urgently commission a detailed study on the presence of asbestos in the construction elements of each and every one of the teaching centers of Lorca and that requires without delay and without any kind of contemplation the immediate withdrawal of them to the Ministry of Education of the CARM, which is the educational authority competent for it.

Adoración Peñas recalled that asbestos is an element whose production, commercialization and use are prohibited in Spain for 16 years since its exposure is associated, especially when it deteriorates, to various types of cancer.
