Fundown and Down Lorca launch a project to facilitate the integration in the labor market of people with intellectual disabilities (06/06/2018)

Within this initiative, which has the backing of the City Council, it will develop a comprehensive process of intermediation, career guidance, individual attention and training in the position under the methodology of supported employment.

The Councilor for Local Development of the City of Lorca, Sandra Martinez, the president of the Down Lorca Association, José Ortuño, and the President of the Fundown Foundation, Diego González, presented this morning a labor integration action that will take term by this entity to help this group.

Sandra Martínez pointed out that "the employment area of ​​Fundown has a long history, recognized and taken as a reference at the national level, in the development of the methodology of Supported Employment, with the aim of promoting the labor integration of people with intellectual disability in the labor market The purpose of the project that is going to start up in Lorca is to promote and improve the employability of the participants, working on improving the skills of these candidates with disabilities and accessing companies to that they can offer employment opportunities to qualified and highly qualified people ".

The Local Development Councilor added that "in this line of action, Fundown is now beginning a collaboration process with Down Lorca, in order to facilitate the integration into the labor market of people with intellectual disabilities in this municipality. a thorough labor intermediation and orientation process will be carried out, as well as providing individual attention and specific training for the job, we are talking about a process that is carried out under the methodology of Supported Employment. has the support of the City of Lorca, since from the local administration we want to implement our support for these actions aimed at promoting the employment of our citizens. "

Martínez, in this regard, stressed that "from the City of Lorca we will continue to support social inclusion projects of these characteristics, as we work on it, convinced of its high profitability and social advantage." In fact we are very satisfied with the work that we have been working together with Fundown and Down Lorca, since these are collectives that go one step further in the projects they materialize, always seeking to promote the inclusion and well-being of their users ".

It should be noted that all the actions developed by FUNDOWN are based on the philosophy of the School of Life.

This philosophy has originated and developed to conceive Disability as "a Collective with the capacity and right to exercise control over their own lives".

The FUNDOWN School of Life promotes that people with intellectual disabilities can participate in their environment as each one chooses, with the rights and obligations that correspond to them as full citizens, enabling the supports and the necessary measures to equalize their opportunities to the rest of the citizenship.

To achieve these objectives, Fundown underlines in each and every one of its programs and actions values ​​such as autonomy, independence, respect for self-determination, decision-making and is structured in two main Services: The Service for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy (SEPE) and the Training and Employment Service (SEFE).

Framed in these two services are the different areas of action of the Foundation, being three the transversal areas: psychology, pedagogy and social work;

and five specific ones: integral and continuous training, transit to the labor world, shared housing and employment area.

The task of the action of the different areas is aimed at achieving a comprehensive and personalized itinerary of social and employment inclusion of the participants.

The Down Syndrome Foundation of the Region of Murcia, is a non-profit organization created in 1994. It is one of the most relevant entities at regional and national level in terms of Care and Promotion of Personal Autonomy of people with Intellectual Disability
