The City Council and the AECC distribute 100 samples of sunscreen and 300 bottles of water with the aim of raising awareness among the population about skin cancer and heat stroke (07/06/2018)

In addition, two information tables have been installed in the Huerto de la Rueda and Alameda de la Constitución in order to spread the importance of using sunscreens especially when going to the beach, as well as when working or being on the street in hours of maximum radiation.

In addition, they also aim to raise awareness among citizens about the tips they should follow to avoid heat shocks due to high temperatures

The Councilor for Health and Consumption of the City of Lorca, María del Carmen Ruiz, visited this morning the information table installed in the Garden of the Wheel, at the entrance of the Weekly Market, on the occasion of the awareness campaign that the City Council is doing jointly with the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), the Department of the Mayor and the Red Cross for the prevention of skin diseases generated by direct exposure to the sun and recommendations to follow to avoid heat stroke.

Mari Carmen Ruiz explained that "an information table has also been installed in the Alameda de la Constitución, with a schedule from 10 am to 1 pm These tables have the purpose of spreading the importance of using sunscreens especially when going to the beach, as well as when working or on the street during peak radiation hours, and also aim to raise awareness among citizens about the advice they should follow to avoid heat stroke due to high temperatures, sunburn and skin cancer".

The Edil de Sanidad has reported that "for this purpose have been distributed among all Lorca who have come to inform the information tables 100 samples of sunscreen cream donated by the Hephame Foundation of the brand Interapothek, as well as 300 bottles of water , in addition to explanatory brochures on the prevention of skin cancer and with the recommendations that citizens must follow in the face of heat stroke. "

Ruiz noted that "in the Murcia Region, according to the latest data available from the Murcian Health Service, 160 new cases of melanoma-type skin cancer are diagnosed every year and almost 80 percent of them are a result of exposure to Ultraviolet light of solar origin To avoid the formation of melanomas, it is important to use a high protection factor for the skin, from 20 or more, and lip protectors, in addition to applying them every two hours, especially in more exposed areas such as ears, nose or lower lip, where the sun's rays directly affect ".

On the other hand, health professionals from the Murcian Health Service (SMS) and the Murcian Institute for Biomedical Research of the Region (IMIB) designed and developed InfoSun last year, a free mobile application to help prevent the onset of melanoma.

Through this App users can know what sun protection factor is the most appropriate, depending on the color of your skin and its location.

In addition, in a simple way you can know what the exact index of ultraviolet radiation at the time of consultation.

It should be noted that heat does not affect all people equally, as there are groups more sensitive to the effects of high temperatures.

In this context we find people over 65 and children under 4 years, who must be added to people suffering from cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, Alzheimer's, respiratory or mental diseases, workers and people exposed to the sun, as well as people being treated with drugs such as diuretics, beta-blockers and antidepressants, or people suffering from obesity.

From the City of Lorca, as measures to prevent heat stroke, especially in elderly and children, it is indicated to avoid direct exposure to the sun in the hottest hours of the day, to accompany our elders who live alone;

avoid sunburn by applying sunscreen creams;

avoid physical activity in the middle of the day, drink water frequently, cover the head with hats or caps;

avoid hot meals and slow digestion;

Wear sunglasses, do not consume alcohol, increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables, as well as wear light clothing and shoes.

On the part of the Department of the Mayor are going to disclose tips to avoid heat stroke, especially among more sensitive groups, who will be warned of the possible arrival of waves of heat, reminding them of the tips that should be taken into account during the days more torrids typical of these heights of the year.
