The MASS will vindicate the figure and work of the artist Emiliano Rojo in his centenary with the exhibition Chronicle of an Era (11/06/2018)

The Councilor for Culture of the City of Lorca, Agustín Llamas, along with the President of Paso Azul, José María Miñarro, and the President of the Paso Azul Foundation, María del Sagrado Corazón García, presented the exhibition Emiliano Rojo.

Chronicle of an Era that will be inaugurated next Thursday June 14 at 7 pm at the Blue Museum of Holy Week, MASS.

The exhibition is curated by the journalist Pilar Wals and the graduate in Fine Arts Joaquín Bastida.

Llamas stressed that "it is an ambitious exhibition that Fundación Paso Azul is launching to pay homage to its artistic director for more than 30 years, Emiliano Rojo, whose 100th birthday since his birth in 2018 Almost a hundred of his works will be present, using three spaces of the MASS to house all the exhibited works ".

Miñarro pointed out that "from El Paso Azul we want to claim the figure of Emiliano, an essential artist for the Paso Azul, for the city of Lorca and for the art of embroidery." Emiliano worked for all the Lorca fraternities, contributing to enrich the heritage local textile during the difficult post-war years, from El Paso Azul we want to offer this tribute that puts it at the level of the most important local artists, as it has to be ".

Chronicle of an Era covers three spaces of the MASS, thus becoming the temporary exhibition with more meters of exhibition and more exhibited pieces since its implementation.

Specifically, the Cloister will be enabled to house textiles of the value of the mantle of the Virgen de la Fuensanta, patron saint of Murcia, the mantle of the Virgen de la Soledad of the Incarnate Pass, the Standard Script of the Paso Azul and banners of the Incarnate Pass, Paso Morado and Curia.

The 1st Floor will house numerous portraits by Emiliano Rojo that will allow us to meet many personalities of the Lorca of the mid-twentieth century.

The Temporary Exhibition Hall will host a sample of his sculptural production, as well as paintings of landscapes, religious paintings, seascapes, etc., which allow him to interpret his pictorial production.

The exhibition will be available to visitors until next July 29, at the same opening time of the MASS.

The inauguration will be on Thursday June 14, starting with a presentation on the figure and the work of Emiliano Rojo in charge of the Commissioners of the sample to then go through the different exhibition spaces that will welcome it.

A catalog of the collection will be published, composed of the works exhibited, as well as studies and writings on Emiliano Rojo by authors such as Eduardo Sánchez Abadie, Joaquín Bastida, the presidents of the Lórquinas brotherhoods who process Red's works, the mayors of Lorca and Murcia, etc. .

The presentation of the Paso Azul Foundation wanted to thank "those who have collaborated to make this exhibition possible, starting with the brotherhoods and families who have entrusted their works of art to integrate this ambitious exhibition." We also appreciate the commitment of the Lorca City Council , Limusa, Heredia and Mulero, Lorquimur and the Alimer Foundation ".

Emiliano Rojo Sánchez was born in Lorca on July 30, 1918, and died on April 25, 1965, before turning 47 and in full creative maturity.

He began his artistic studies at the Municipal Drawing Academy under the tuition of Francisco Cayuela, later moving to Murcia to complete his training at the School of Arts and Crafts under the teaching of José Planes.

Sculptor, painter, illustrator, restorer, caricaturist and artistic director, he collaborated with the main local and regional publications of the moment and carried out works for the churches of Santiago, Carmen, San Mateo, San Patricio and the Convent of the Mercedarian Mothers.

In his workshop on Calle Alta painted Lorca of his time, who relied on his skills as a portraitist.

His production as director of embroidery stands out, especially at the front of Paso Azul, of which he was artistic director for more than 30 years.
