The PSOE calls for the cleaning of the Guadalentín River, which has become a waste dump (20/06/2018)

The Socialists denounce that in the Alto del Guadalentín section, between the core of El Advisor and the viaducts of the A-7, there is an uninterrupted succession of piles of rubble, furniture, plastics, tires and other waste around the roads that run through the channel, which has turned the river into a landfill, demanding more vigilance and an information campaign and citizen awareness.

The councilor of the PSOE, David Romera has called on the Lorca City Council and Segura Hydrographic Confederation to order the immediate cleaning of the upper section of the river Guadalentín, at least from the core of the Councilor to the viaducts of the A-7 in the vicinity of the city, "because by a lack of public awareness and more vigilance on the part of public administrations, the Guadalentín has become a dumping ground", as attested by the "dozens of tailings that accumulate on both sides of the roads that they cross the channel ".

Romera has insisted that the current situation of the Guadalentín "is shameful and that we should be ashamed," and that there is a double responsibility that falls "both on the part of those insensitive and incivilians who deposit their waste in the river without thinking about the damage that cause in the natural environment, "as in the administration itself," that does not apply deterrent measures, or due vigilance, does not have the channel in the proper conditions of conservation and does not launch information campaigns or awareness to use the legal dumps "existing in the municipality.

The socialist mayor recalls that the Guadalentín is a point of ecological interest of the first order and that in its interior next to the Pantano de Puentes, is the largest forest of taráis (shrub typical of the Mediterranean shores that is able to excrete salts from the soil ) of Europe, a protected species of community interest, while providing shelter to numerous animal species.

In this sense, "this environmental wealth collides head-on with the dumps that exist in the river bed", where very toxic and polluting elements can be found: from construction and demolition materials to tires, furniture and fixtures, agricultural remains, mattresses , cardboard plates, plastic packaging, glass bottles, upholstery and interior elements of vehicles, bottles and all kinds of plastics, uralitas, garments, remains of concrete pipes discarded from the sanitation works carried out in the area, old signs, etc.

The main road that runs along the Guadalentín channel until reaching the Pantano de Puentes is a must for several Ecotouristic Routes of the Region of Murcia, such as the Via de la Via Augusta, the Alto Guadalentín de la Cruz de Caravaca or the Ruta Lorca-Santiago, while it is a place well traveled by Lorca who practice outdoor sports such as hiking, running or cycling.

That is to say, "it is a public place of leisure and very popular expansion that is in terrible conditions of conservation and that it is necessary to know, take care and respect" by the population.
