The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martin, has denounced the terrible state of the parks and gardens of the municipality, despite the fact that the company awarded its maintenance, cleaning and conservation will charge 83% more than in the contract it signed with the City Council in 2016.
Two years ago, the annual cost for the municipal coffers of the outsourcing of this service was 790,000 euros.
However, the concessionaire will now receive 1.4 million euros for carrying out jobs that are characterized by a "pressing" lack of personnel.
In that sense, the mayor of IU-Green has explained that the workforce has gone from 30 to 23, although there is a commitment to 12 new hires, which, in any case, would only mean an increase of 5 workers in relation to 2016. An "absolutely insufficient" figure, according to Martín, if one takes into account the increase in the price of the contract and a supposed increase of 40% of the green areas with which the municipality that IU has in doubt.
Martín has also expressed his surprise that Lorca has increased his trees by 163% in the last two years.
According to the technical specifications of the contract, the municipality has gone from having 9,194 trees in 2016 to have more than 24,000 in 2018. "Someone explain where are the 15,000 new trees planted despite the taste of the PP Government team by the chainsaw, unless the petunias and the begonias are computed, which then might fit us, "he said.
As an example of the poor state of conservation of the municipal parks, the councilor of Izquierda Unida has shown images of the one located in La Viña, an emblematic and pioneer space in Lorca, built with the effort and participation of the neighbors in the 80s and that now it has dry and uninhabited parterres.
Martín also alluded to the deplorable state of the artificial turf that covers part of this space.
"The PP has become the king of the carpet, which not only is not serving to save in the provision of the service but it offers a shabby, dirty and abandoned image of our green areas," he said.
For this reason, Martín advocated the remunicipalization of the cleaning, maintenance and conservation of public parks and gardens so that the competitions will be taken over by the Consistory, guaranteeing the jobs of the current operators.
"We believe that it is a viable formula that will serve to create more and better employment and, with it, improve the quality of service," said Martin, who recalled that his political background is contrary to privatization formulas that, as in the case of Aguas de Lorca, "only serve to inflate the pockets of private companies and to worsen the working conditions of the working class.
