Dancers from Senegal, Azerbaijan, Kenya, Mexico and Mallorca will accompany Choirs and Dances in the XXIX edition of the International Folklore Festival "City of Lorca" (27/06/2018)

The Councilman of Culture of the City of Lorca, Agustín Llamas, and the president of the group of Choirs and Dances of Lorca, María Antonia Martínez, presented this morning the XXIX edition of the International Folklore Festival "City of Lorca", one of the main artistic and cultural events of the summer period in our city, which this year has the participation of 7 groups from around the world.

Agustín Llamas explained that "this Festival will be held from June 27 to July 4, including among its activities all kinds of folkloric shows and performances for all audiences, echoing an extensive program of events that places special emphasis on performances for minorities of the elderly, the disabled, ... who can not go to the traditional venues of these shows, and spontaneous displays of folklore on the street, where the audience participates with the groups in an informal way, including theatrical performances perfectly elaborated or performances in streets and squares that make Lorca during these days a wide mosaic of cultures and traditions, workshops, gastronomic samples, conferences and exhibitions, among others ".

The groups participating in this XXIX edition are the Dakar Jammu Ballet from Senegal;

Ganjlik from Azerbaijan;

Nairobi Dance Ensemble of Kenya, the School of Music and Danses of Mallorca and the Folkloric Ballet of the Ministry of Education of Zacateca de México.

It will also have the participation of the Cuadrilla de Ánimas de Huercal-Overa for the Live Folklore Section.

The Councilor for Culture added that "as in other editions, the Festival is dedicated to an artisan folklore activity that provides a special and special touch to it, highlighting a part of the folklore of a town that deserves it. They have been embroidery, pottery, esparto and jarapa, while in this edition the protagonist will fall on the artisan of the postiza.The material with which the inserts are made is wood, being in Murcia the wood most used for it the jinjolero, the artificial ones give an identifying character to the rhythms of our dances and sounds, being very attractive for those who have never felt their special sound ".

The International Festival of Folklore "City of Lorca" belongs as a full member to CIOFF (International Committee of Folklore Festival Organizers), an organization belonging to UNESCO and official collaborator of UNESCO for the PCI that ensures quality and purity of these events and that endorses, therefore, the Lorca Festival as one of the most prestigious in our region.

The program of activities will begin this Wednesday with the opening of the exhibition "Atuendos y remembranzas del s. XIX en Lorca", at 20.30 in the Palacio de Guevara.

On Friday at 8:00 pm, the official reception will take place at the Consistory in the Palacio de Guevara.

From there the participating groups will parade towards the Plaza de España for 21.15 hours to hold the opening ceremony and the inaugural session of the Festival.

On Saturday at 8:00 pm, the Mallorca and Senegal groups will perform at the Parque Almenara Shopping Center.

At 8:30 pm the groups from Senegal, Mexico and Azerbaijan will be received at the House of the Elves of the neighboring Puerto Lumbreras, population in which they will parade to later perform a performance of all groups.

On Sunday between 11 and 12 the groups will perform informal performances in the residences of San Diego, Caser and Asprodes.

Monday's programming will start at 12 noon with the performance in Apandis of the Kenyan group.

At 19.30 there will be a new edition of the popular activity "Come and dance" on Corredera Street, where the Live Folklore Section will also be held at 20.30.

On Tuesday at 9.30 p.m., the Plaza de España will host the closing ceremony of the Festival with a performance by all the participating groups.

Finally, on Wednesday, July 4, the program will close with the conference "Traditional Aspects of the Sierra de la Almenara" given by Pablo Díaz Moreno at the CajaMurcia Foundation, to later close the exhibition that could have been visited throughout the Festival.
