The Councilor for Family and Social Welfare of the City of Lorca, Fátima Mínguez, took stock this morning of the aid that the Lorca Consistory and the municipal company Aguas de Lorca have materialized in the first six months of 2018 through the "Extraordinary Social Fund de Aguas de Lorca "for the payment of water supply and sewerage.

Fátima Mínguez pointed out that "as a result of the economic crisis, in our municipality we find families who, due to their precarious economic situation, have great difficulties in coping with the payment of water supplies." In order to help these families, the Lorca City Council and the company Aguas de Lorca, signed at the beginning of 2016 the Social Fund Agreement, or Social Bono of Water (BSA), in order to collaborate with these families to deal with water and sewer bills, and thus avoid the consequences of the non-payment of drinking water services, the financial provision of the BSA has been increased this year to 450,000 euros to meet the needs of vulnerable consumers determined by the municipal Social Services ".

The Councilor for Family and Social Welfare explained that "during the first six months of 2018, 517 applications have been processed, from which the corresponding study and social assessment have been carried out from this municipal area. 1,500 interventions for the individual assessment of cases between interviews, telephone inquiries, request and collection of documentation, obtaining of this process 439 applications granted and 22 in process.It should be noted that during 2017 there were 451 applications, so we hope to double this figure "

Mínguez has indicated that "the procedure to request the Social Water Bond is to fill out the form that can be collected in the offices of Aguas de Lorca or on our website and register it with a photocopy of ID in the Town Hall Registry; , Aguas de Lorca and the Municipal Social Services Center initiate the procedures to give a resolution to the user, once the proposal has been approved by the Local Government Board, the interested party and Aguas de Lorca are informed ".

The Councilor for Family and Social Welfare added that "the criteria for obtaining the grant of the fund are, among others, to be a user in the Social Services Center of the City of Lorca, where the needs related to the lack of means for coverage of basic needs, being the owner / beneficiary of an individual contract that constitutes the habitual residence, having recognized disability by the IMAS to the extent that affects the family economic, either the bond applicant or any member of the family unit; the title of large family and for this year 2018 it is also established that the bonus applicant can not have accumulated the payment of three bills ".

Fátima Mínguez stressed that "in addition, this year funds have also been obtained through a grant recognized by the General Directorate of Family and Social Policy to the Municipalities of Lorca to alleviate the effects of energy poverty. It has a total amount of 75,000 euros, thanks to which 60 families have received financial support to cover debt expenses in the water supply because they are at risk and / or socially vulnerable and can participate in the coverage that involves participation. in the Social Water Fund ".
