IU demands the consolidation of the French and Italian courses, the incorporation of German, Chinese and Arabic (24/07/2018)

The councilor of this formation, Gloria Martin, recalled that we are talking about a publicly owned institution and that, therefore, it must be the guarantor of equal opportunities for all citizens.

Therefore, the Lorca and neighbors of Aguilas, Totana, Puerto Lumbreras and Alhama, where the EOI maintains extensions, can not continue to be discriminated against.

The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martín, will ask a question in the ordinary plenary of June about the problems generated by the suppression of part of the training offer of the Official School of Languages in Lorca.

More than 60 students have denounced the suppression of five courses, three of Italian and two of French so, according to those affected, they can not continue their training itinerary in the municipality.

For all these reasons, Martin will ask the City Council of Lorca to demand the maintenance of these groups from the regional government's Education Department, as well as the authorization of an advanced Italian course (C1) so that students can complete the training cycle at headquarters. Lorca of the Official School of Languages.

At present, the teaching of Italian only has two basic and one intermediate level courses.

In addition, the mayor of IU-Greens claims the incorporation of the teachings of German, Arabic and Chinese, training offers that are available in Cartagena and Murcia.

Martín criticized the comparative grievance suffered by the students of Lorca in this regard.

"As in other areas, we are also discriminated against along with the residents of Águilas, Totana, Puerto Lumbreras and Alhama, where the EOI of Lorca has extensions," explained the councilor.

Martín recalled that the Official School of Languages is a public institution and that, therefore, it must be the guarantor of equal opportunities for all citizens.

Martín, has also requested the change of location of the headquarters of the EOI in Lorca, currently in the premises of the IES Bartolomé Pérez Casas.

"Many parents are reluctant to send their teenagers to the outskirts of the city, because in winter, at six in the evening, it is already night," he said.

Likewise, he also opted for the promotion efforts of the Official School of Languages in Lorca to intensify.

"We are sure that with a more central location and greater resources for the recruitment of students, the problem of lack of registration that the Ministry uses as an excuse to suppress the groups," said Martin.
