The art of embroidery in silks and gold is recognized by the Public Service of State Employment as a Training Specialty within the family of Arts and Crafts (02/08/2018)

The recognition supposes the consolidation of this art so attached to Lorca as a professional work with a vocation for the future, highlighting the valuable work done by embroiderers and Lorca confraternities for the maintenance of traditional embroidery

The Local Development Councilor of the City of Lorca, Sandra Martinez Navarro, accompanied by members of the Association of the Art of Embroidery of Lorca in the parades biblical-passionate, representatives of the confraternities and embroidery Lorca, has announced that the art of embroidery in silks and gold has been recognized by the Public Employment Service as a Training Specialty within the family of Arts and Crafts, which in practice means its consolidation as a completely professional trade and opens the doors to the implementation of a range of resources that allow its strengthening and survival in the future.

The City Councilor pointed out that "this is exceptional news for Lorca embroidery and that it offers the just reward for the work carried out over the last few months to ensure that Lorca embroidery is recognized within the SEPE catalog for what it is: a professional specialty Despite its traditional character, since in the past it was a labor outside the labor market and closer to the field of leisure, embroidery is today a job that requires training and experience.The embroiderers are very competent professionals who are capable to create immortal works of art through silk and gold, contributing their capacity and effort to create mantles, robes or costumes that make Lorca proud and that are the flag of our Holy Week and Lorca itself. It was necessary to recognize their professional competence and put it at the level of any other profession, establishing the relevant training itinerary ".

Martínez Navarro recalled that "from the Department of Local Development we have been working for SEPE to include in our specialty catalog our sui generis embroidery, for which we have developed various studies and annexes that have consolidated a corpus on embroidery as a labor specialty , specifying level of qualification, prescription of trainers, equipments, etcetera, as well as a sequential relation of formative modules for the learning of the technique ".

"This recognition supposes, in the first place, a distinction to the work carried out by embroiderers, artistic directors and the Lorca's own Steps, since all of them are the architects of which the embroidery has been able to modernize in the forms but maintaining the same background of quality and beauty, now recognized as a training specialty, but it also represents the necessary starting point for the implementation of new resources that we can develop from now on. From the City of Lorca we are open to the possibility of requesting financing to develop courses and programs that allow to form in the lorquino embroidery ".

La Edil has announced that "this is the starting point to continue working for the labor consolidation of the art of embroidery."
