The Socialists believe that the PP government team "shows every day its inability" to keep the green areas of San Diego in good condition, even in areas that have been recently regenerated.
They argue, echoing the neighborhood protests, "a total neglect and abandonment" and demand the repair of the many existing defects and the beautification of the parks and gardens as Lorca deserves.
The councilman of the Municipal Socialist Group in the City of Lorca, David Romera, has denounced the "shameful situation of abandonment" in which are the parks and gardens of the neighborhood of San Diego de Lorca.
Affirms that it is only necessary to take a walk through the walks and green areas of this neighborhood "to check the zero interest and the total inability of the PP Government team to keep the San Diego beds, parks and gardens in good condition" , even of those areas that have been recently regenerated after many months of works and inconveniences to the neighbors.
For Romera, the shameful situation in which the parks and gardens of the San Diego neighborhood are located has a lot to do with "the city model that the PP wants for Lorca, which is that of a city of asphalt and cobblestone, a city arid, sad and careless that becomes insufferable in summer, after they have disappeared large trees like those that existed in the Paseo de Rafael Maroto or Avenida de Los Angeles ", while blaming the situation in San Diego" to the chronic abandonment that suffers this district lorquina along with others like San Cristóbal, Los Angeles and Apolonia, where the claims and needs of the neighbors are not taken care of ".
The socialist mayor has listed some deficiencies that can be seen in the parks and gardens of San Diego and that are generating many complaints from the neighbors of the area, such as: parterres and landscaped areas that have disappeared converted into a sand, gums irrigation systems, broken tiles, mudflats when it rains, sports track without protection fences and holes in the petanque courts in the Parque de la Casa Mata;
neglected parterres and with many areas without vegetation in the Paseo de la Avenida Rafael Maroto and in the Santa María del Alcázar Urbanization;
destruction on the roof of the Plaza de Curtidores park;
very dirty cobblestone in the Park of the Virgen de los Dolores Urbanization of Puente Gimeno Street;
destroyed protection fences, painted graffiti, disappearance of parterres and rubbers on the surface torn off in Europa Park;
The same situation is found in the gardens of the Avenue of the Incarnate Pass, where there are also remains of garbage, dog droppings, rubbish and broken lampposts;
they also appear very careless and without the splendor that the gardens of the old Infantry Barracks have always had;
the garden of Olcina's Corner has also disappeared;
On the other hand, the socialist councilor regrets that the trees eliminated at the entrance to the University Campus, Avenida de Europa have not been replaced and no new ones have been planted on the Avenue of the Armed Forces.
Finally, he also points out that improvements must be made in the Park of the San Diego Station, where the pavement has disappeared, there are holes next to the playgrounds and the existing natural grass is very neglected;
and proceed to fix the defects and beautify the surroundings of the Mayor Miguel Navarro Molina Footbridge and the ride over the river Guadalentín.
For all of this, from the PSOE, the PP government team is called upon to deal with the complaints and petitions of the San Diego neighborhood so that "the repair of all the damages that exist in the parks and gardens of the neighborhood as well as proceed to the embellishment of the same for the enjoyment of the residents of Lorca and our visitors. "
It also alleges that "the lack of interest on the part of the PP to maintain attractive gardens and care, clashes with the infinite possibilities of creating original public spaces whose arboreal and shrubby species are adapted to the conditions of our climate and urban space (the called xerojardinería) ".
For the PSOE, "it is a pity that the PP prefers to have the city made a wasteland with the gardens destroyed."
Similarly, David Romera reminded that parks and gardens are essential elements that embellish and sponge the dense urban space, are areas of recreation and enjoyment for the population, and help create a sustainable city, more livable and more attractive, "recalling the necessary collaboration of all, for what claims in addition to the repair of damages and beautification of the parks and gardens of San Diego, the realization of a campaign of awareness and good urban practices for the general population.
