IU-V denounces the umpteenth elimination of trees in a path in the vicinity of the malls (16/08/2018)

The municipal spokesman of IU-V, Pedro Sosa, has returned to denounce what qualifies as the umpteenth destruction of the trees in Lorca linked to the realization of public works in the city.

This time it was the Alameda Dr. Gimeno Baduell.

A street located in the surroundings of the Virgen del Alcázar Hospital where all the existing trees have been removed for the realization of a sidewalk where, once again, the tree is left to place new trees.

In Lorca, says the spokesman of IU-V, trees are use and throw, and it is very difficult for some to die a natural death.

In a city so in need of trees and shadows with which to combat the severity of the summers it is incomprehensible the lightness with which the local PP government eliminates botanical specimens of a certain size that have been with us for many years to replace them - when they are replaced It is not always the case - for new copies.

This time it has not been specimens or protected, or cataloged, but in any case, in the opinion of the mayor of IU-V, it is a free removal of trees motivated solely by the mere ease of making the conditioning of a sidewalk with more speed and comfort for the contracted company.

The spokesman of IU-V will demand in the Plenary Session of the City Council that all public works that are executed in Lorca contain a report of their possible affectations to the vegetal patrimony of all the Lorca, and in addition, in a specific way, it demands that they proceed from Immediately to census the copies that still remain of elm in the Lorca malls and in other gardens and spaces of the city of Lorca.

The elms, says the councilman, are protected species of the Regional Catalog of Wild Flora Protected Region of Murcia (Decree 50/2003, BORM No. 131) with the category of "special interest", a species that in Lorca has suffered for decades felling and indiscriminate pruning of those responsible for parks and gardens of the City.
