The Councilor for Health explained that "between June 15 and 18 the City of Lorca placed in the municipality 32 oviposition traps for the detection of tiger mosquitoes provided by the SRVMT (Regional Mosquito Tigre Surveillance System) and located in 16 different locations, so far detected tiger mosquito eggs in four areas of the municipality: Saprelorca Industrial Park, Calnegre Point, Lorca center and Las Alamedas. Also, from September will be installed trap traps for adult mosquitoes that will be processed in the laboratory of Microbiology and Parasitology of the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital for the detection and characterization of viruses within mosquitoes ".

The Mayor of Health has anticipated that "from the Municipal Executive, this campaign continues to be developed with the aim of preventing the arrival of this insect species and, if necessary, respond effectively to the detection of colonies of the same. continues to raise awareness among the public for the elimination of possible breeding sites, since the attitude of citizens is crucial to combat this species, and in this connection, brochures that are being distributed by the municipality have been published in coordination with the Ministry of Health. Informative talks are being offered to communities of neighbors or other associative entities that request it. "

María del Carmen Ruiz has indicated that "in order to reduce tiger mosquito populations, the EDIT (Eliminate Desecar- Prevent Treatment) measures must be applied in this order of preference, therefore, the advice so that we can all keep their presence very low are the following:

Use repellents, especially on the legs.

The tiger mosquito tends to bite on areas of the body closest to the ground, although it stings the whole body of children.

Maintain good body hygiene.

Sweat and strong smells attract them.

It also avoids sweetish perfumes.

Put mosquito nets on the windows and electrical appliances against insects.

Avoid containers that can accumulate water, such as buckets or drums, tires.

Eliminate the water accumulated in objects or empty it weekly: vases, ashtrays, plates of pots, plastic pools, animal troughs ...

It closes with a cover or mosquito net, the water tanks.

Keep chlorine levels in your pool.

Put ornamental fish in your pond or garden fountain, as they eat the larvae.

Regularly clean the roof and terrace gutters.

Regulates drip irrigation so there is no waterlogging.

The Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus, is an invasive species, smaller than usual, being black with white spots and easily distinguishable by its characteristic white streak on the thorax and head.

Breeding in small amounts of water, never in rivers, swamps, etc. with large amounts of water or moving during the day, and prefer to bite people aggressively.

Its biological cycle oscillates between 8 and 15 days.

It was in 2004 when for the first time the tiger mosquito was detected in Spain, reaching the Region of Murcia in 2011. This mosquito is competent for the transmission of several viruses and parasites, capable of infecting humans, such as dengue viruses, chikungunya and Zika, among others, although in Spain it has not been proven that he transmitted any of them to people.
