Lorca City Council and the Vodafone Foundation will train 900 adults in the use of smartphones and tablets to reduce the digital divide between generations (05/09/2018)

The Councilor for Family and Social Welfare of the City Council of Lorca, Fátima Mínguez, together with the Head of Public Administration of Vodafone in the Levant and the Balearic Islands, Antonio Álvarez, representing the Vodafone Spain Foundation, and the president of Fundación Iniciativas el Gigante, Francisco Perán Albarracín, have presented training workshops on the use of the smartphone aimed at adults, which will be taught, for the second consecutive year in Lorca by the Initiatives the Giant Foundation organized by the City Council and Vodafone Foundation.

The objective of these workshops will be to bring the elderly the new smart mobile devices - smartphones and tablets - to reduce the digital divide between generations in rural environments and for our elders to access new paths of opportunities to improve their quality of life.

According to Antonio Álvarez, "the emergence of advanced mobile devices, on the one hand, and the emergence of mobile broadband, on the other, have generated a new communication environment that older people have to assimilate to be able to benefit from new services that will enable them to They will help to live with greater personal autonomy and independence, hence the importance of these workshops, which will train 900 older people, facilitating access to the benefits provided by new technologies to enhance and promote active aging. "

On the other hand, Fátima Mínguez pointed out that the workshops "complement the commitment made by the City of Lorca to incorporate ICT in day to day, to promote active aging and reduce vulnerability in the group of older people."

For Francisco Perán, "the workshops are a great opportunity to bring new technologies to the elderly, especially in rural areas." The use of mobile devices helps the elderly to increase their self-esteem, social connectivity and safety, thus improving their quality of life".

In total there will be 35 workshops of 6 hours each (3 sessions of 2 hours).

The elderly will see the enormous possibilities offered by mobile devices, smartphones and tablets, in aspects such as security, health, participation, access to the internet and the world around them in a much more accessible way and applications that can be used according to their tastes. and preferences, especially for contact with family and friends.
