The Mayor establishes the immediate start-up of a campaign to increase tree-planting in the entire municipality, in the first phase of which 400 new specimens will be planted (06/09/2018)

The redevelopment works in the neighborhood of San Fernando involve the planting of 50 new trees over the coming weeks with the aim of providing the area with a dense vegetable vault to combat heat in summer.

The councilman of Parks and Gardens in the City of Lorca, Angel Meca, has indicated that the mayor of the city, Fulgencio Gil has ordered the different municipal services the launch of a campaign to increase the trees in our town.

It is a project that is going to start imminently and which will benefit both the urban area and the districts.

It is planned to plant at least 400 new specimens in its first phase.

This is an initiative that starts from the mayor himself, Fulgencio Gil, who will start over the next few weeks once the summer dates and the rigors of high temperatures have been overcome.

We are talking about a campaign in which we want to give open participation to schoolchildren, associations and collectives, since it is the most ambitious proposal in this sense that will be carried out in the recent history of our municipality.

Ángel Meca explained that the first tangible example of this initiative will be the planting of 50 trees in the neighborhood of San Fernando, which will allow this urban area to be endowed with a remarkable vegetation cover.

We are talking about an area that has been completely rebuilt after having to be demolished its buildings because of the very serious damage that the earthquakes had caused in its internal structure, constituting one of the most important challenges that the city has had to face during these years .

Meca Ruzafa has stated that this municipal service is focusing its efforts on advancing the tasks of general replacement of both trees and areas of usual floral ornamentation.

The replenishment of trees includes replanting those specimens that have been the object of vandalism, leaving their corresponding empty trees.

Now they are going to locate autochthonous species, avoiding mistakes of the past, when, against all technical criteria and common sense, trees of cold climates were planted in different streets of Lorca, with the consequent general failure.

In this case it is going to opt for typically Mediterranean trees, which do tolerate the climatic and temperature variations that we suffer in our municipality, It is fruitless mulberries, which allow to have a dense vegetable vault in a short time, as well as almeces.

The mayor of Parks and Gardens has anticipated that next Monday, October 10 at 7 in the afternoon, Diego Pallarés Cachá Pediatric Park will be open again, which has been completely renovated thanks to the investment made by the Regional Government presided over by Fernando López Miras, through the Ministry of Development.

It is a work that has had an investment of 380,000 euros and covers a perimeter of 8,340 square meters.
