The PSOE denounces more than 24 hours waiting to get a bed at the Rafael Méndez hospital (14/09/2018)

Sánchez Jódar has once again denounced the overcrowding and saturation of patients in the observation and middle care rooms, located in the Rafael Méndez Hospital emergency room, crowded in a few meters waiting for more than 24 hours, eating, having dinner and receiving their treatments. , to get bed in plant.

The PSOE has demanded the immediate opening of the maternity plant and the expansion of the number of beds necessary "by logic and common sense are missing after going from 6 to 9 operating rooms, as the health professionals themselves point"

The deputy spokesman of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Marisol Sánchez Jódar has again demanded the Mayor to "espabile" and "react" to the "extreme situation" that is living almost daily due to the disastrous health policy of the Popular Party and blame for the cuts that continue to apply in Rafael Méndez.

"If they do not take immediate action, we will have a hot autumn, overcrowding of patients in the Lorca hospital," he predicts.

Sánchez Jódar echoed complaints that have been made "viral" in several publications on social networks by family members of patients, who relate with "anguish" the consequences of overcrowding that these patients are having to endure, some of them octogenarians , and to those that the Popular Party forces to have to "receive their treatments, to eat and dine in a room of barely 20 square meters", with waits of "between 24 and 48 hours to be able to receive bed in plant".

It is a situation that the PSOE has been denouncing in recent months, following complaints from both the workers themselves and the users of the Lorca hospital.

"You can not commit the imprudence of closing plants in a hospital where the lack of beds and resources is flagrant."

That is why Sánchez Jódar has once again demanded the "immediate" opening of the maternity ward closed since mid-summer.

Sánchez Jódar anticipates that, predictably, the situation will register a "slight respite" with the next opening of the maternity ward, which remains closed since last July.

However, Sánchez Jódar says that the main cause that is generating the overcrowding of patients in the observation and middle care rooms is due to the increase in surgical activity, as a result of the opening of the new operating rooms.

"It is the health workers themselves who are warning us that, by logic and common sense, if large operating rooms, and therefore, extensive surgical activity, you need more beds or yes, otherwise, you open the door to register the collapse and the plug that is being recorded in the observation and middle care rooms ".

The PSOE warned last March, and none of the plants was closed, so it is clear that the Lorca hospital needs to increase the number of beds to avoid this type of "inhuman" situations.

"If the number of operating rooms increases and we go from six to nine, the number of operations increases and, therefore, the number of people who need bed increases."

"What did the Popular Party expect that would happen with the expansion of the operating rooms? That the operated patients did not need a bed after being operated on, or thought to put bunk beds in the rooms?"
