Two programs of the Community with the Lorca City Council provide training and employment to 42 unemployed (19/09/2018)

A total of 42 unemployed from Lorca currently participate in two employment and training programs developed by the Community with the City of Lorca.

Are two of the eight employment programs that the Ministry of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment, through the SEF, has granted this year to the City of the Sun for a total of 1,217,000 euros and those who benefit 104 people from Lorca who are looking for a job.

The aim of these initiatives is to boost employment among the groups that find greater difficulties in accessing the labor market, such as the unemployed over 45 years of age, young people or the long-term unemployed.

Specifically, 32 of these 42 unemployed, all of them over 25 years of age, alternate from May theoretical classes with paid employment in the framework of the 'Agora' program.

This initiative, lasting twelve months, allows them to train in four different professional specialties to work, for example, as plumbers, electricians, gardeners and masons, among other professions.

After completing three months of theoretical classes, these student-workers have been hired for nine months by the City of Lorca to perform work to improve urban environments.

Some of the tasks that are being undertaken are the adaptation of the Plaza de Las Barandillas and Callejón de Los Cambrones and the conditioning of the parks of La Peñica, Casa Mata and the malls, among others.

In addition, participants who successfully complete all modules of the program will obtain a certificate of professionalism that will accredit their skills in the specialty for which they have been trained and significantly increase their options to find a job in these sectors.

Another of the employment programs that are currently underway in Lorca, and is aimed at young beneficiaries of Youth Guarantee, has led to ten children under 30 without employment or training have been hired by the City for six months to perform also urban improvement works.

Between the positions that carry out they are the one of bricklayer, painter and laborer of works.

Evolution of employment in Lorca

The general director of the SEF, Severa Gonzalez, participated today in the meeting of the local Employment Board, convened by the City of Lorca and chaired by the mayor of the town, Fulgencio Gil.

It has addressed the various employment programs that are currently underway in the municipality, as well as other possible initiatives that contribute to boost the labor market of the town.

"The regional government and municipalities must go hand in hand to improve employment, so participation spaces such as this Local Employment Board are essential for all stakeholders involved to contribute, discuss and, ultimately, add to give more options for people who do not have work, "said the director of the SEF.

Other issues that were addressed in the Bureau was the evolution of employment data in the locality.

Specifically, the number of members of the Social Security has risen by 704 people over the last twelve months, representing an increase of 2.24 percent, which puts the number of members in the municipality in 32,141 people .
