The City Council is requesting a chain of employment programs to promote urban improvements in the historic center that would involve an investment of more than one million euros (19/09/2018)

These are the "Casco Histórico I y II" projects, which are expected to benefit a total of 72 unemployed people over 25 years of age.

In addition, the SEF has requested a third project entitled "Laboro", endowed with 525,000 euros.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, reported that the City has requested the Employment and Training Service (SEF) a new chain of grants to develop three new courses of employment and training that will have as a fundamental objective the execution of a battery of improvements in the historic center of our city.

This is a commitment established by the Mayor's Office with the aim of continuing to invest in the development of our most emblematic urban area, deepening the achievements that have been achieved to date with the comprehensive urban renewal works carried out in its neighborhoods, as well as the emblematic recovery of the churches of the high districts, which is assuming an authentic revulsion both from the cultural point of view, as patrimonial, social and tourist.

The mayor has indicated that the employment programs have been called historic center 1 and historic center 2, encompassing a joint investment of 1,065,000 euros, and providing coverage for a total of 72 unemployed Lorca over 25 years.

To this program we would add a third, called Laboro, for which an investment of 525,000 euros has been requested, considering that 36 students could participate, in this case under 30 years old.

Fulgencio Gil has anticipated that within the line of work undertaken by the Department of Local Development has also claimed an investment of 5 million euros from the European Social Fund for the implementation of a new training and employment project called Sumamos .

It would be a multi-year program that would cover the entire spectrum of profiles of unemployed people, both elderly, young people, women and the long-term unemployed.

We have to keep all precautions in this regard since we are talking about a large and ambitious project, although if we do it would be a milestone.

The mayor has made these demonstrations during the meeting of the Local Employment Roundtable, which was held this morning at the Local Development Center, with the presence of the SEF director, Severa González, and the councilor for Employment, Sandra Martínez, as well as social representatives and the municipal corporation.

It should be noted that the approval of the training specialty of Embroidery in Silks and Gold has been confirmed, an advance that will allow a new impetus for the execution of new employment programs in this regard, while at the same time granting the relevance that we demanded to a fact that is the most prestigious artistic expression that our municipality has contributed, underlining the effort that this city is making so that the Lorca Embroidery and its Staging in the Biblical-Pastoral Parades is officially recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO .

The SEF has granted this year to the Consistory eight employment programs worth 1.2 million to improve the employment options of 104 unemployed in the municipality.

A total of 42 unemployed from Lorca are currently participating in two employment and training programs being developed by the Autonomous Community with the City of Lorca.

Are two of the eight employment programs that the Ministry of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment, through the SEF, has granted this year to the City of the Sun for a total of 1,217,000 euros and those who benefit 104 people from Lorca who are looking for a job.

The aim of these initiatives is to boost employment among the groups that find greater difficulties in accessing the labor market, such as the unemployed over 45 years of age, young people or the long-term unemployed.

Specifically, 32 of these 42 unemployed, all of them older than 25 years, are alternating since May the theoretical classes with paid employment in the framework of the program 'Agora'.

This initiative, lasting twelve months, is allowing them to train in four different professional specialties to work, for example, as plumbers, electricians, gardeners and masons, among other professions.

After completing three months of theoretical classes, these student-workers have been hired for nine months by the City of Lorca to perform work to improve urban environments.

Some of the tasks that are being undertaken are the adaptation of the Plaza de Las Barandillas and Callejón de Los Cambrones and the conditioning of the parks of La Peñica, Casa Mata and the malls, among others.

In addition, participants who successfully complete all modules of the program, will obtain a certificate of professionalism that will credit their skills in the specialty for which they have been trained and greatly increase their options to find a job in these sectors.

Another of the employment programs that are currently underway in Lorca, and is aimed at young beneficiaries of Youth Guarantee, has led to ten children under 30 without employment or training have been hired by the City for six months to perform also urban improvement works.

Between the positions that carry out they are the one of bricklayer, painter and laborer of works.

The general director of the SEF, Severa Gonzalez, has participated today in the meeting of the local Employment Board, stating that "The regional government and municipalities must go hand in hand to improve employment, with what participation spaces like this Local Employment Table are essential for all the agents involved to contribute, discuss and, ultimately, add to give more options to people who do not have work.

Other issues that were addressed in the Bureau was the evolution of employment data in the locality.

Specifically, the number of Social Security affiliates has risen by 704 people over the last twelve months, which represents an increase of 2.24 percent, placing the number of affiliates in the municipality at 32,141 people.
