IU-Greens denounces waiting lists of up to a week in Primary Care in Lorca (24/09/2018)

The councilor of this formation, Gloria Martin, has once again demanded the reopening of the health centers in the afternoon.

"Their cuts are collapsing the system and have created an unbearable workload for the medical and nursing teams, which are overwhelmed," he said.

The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martín, has denounced waiting lists of up to a week to be attended in primary care consultations at the Lorca-Sutullena health center.

Martín said there are no excuses for this excessive delay: "we are not already in summer or there is no epidemic peak flu that justifies that citizens have to wait seven days to be seen by their family doctor."

The mayor of IU-Greens explained that the lack of staff in Primary Care makes queries slow down, which causes patients to go to Rafael Méndez Hospital, with the consequent saturation of the emergency service.

"Primary care is the basic pillar of health, but PP cuts, which promote precariousness, are putting the health of people at risk," he lamented.

"Failure to provide the health of the resources and sufficient staff is an act of irresponsibility on the part of the regional Administration, which is playing with the lives of citizens," he said.

Martín recalled that Primary Care is the "cornerstone" and the axis of the health system.

However, its professionals attend 90% of all medical consultations.

However, they have endured almost a decade of decline of the staff, quotas that exceed in many cases 20% of the maximum, or refusal to supply the absences, so they are forced to pass double consultations so that colleagues can enjoy their vacation or stay low.

All this, seeing 80-90 patients per day with a time of just over five minutes for each.

Therefore, Gloria Martin has called for the "protest" of "any professional, family or sick person who is considered injured" by the overload of health services because, "we can not consent to destroy public health by the foundations and to continue punishing workers and citizens with an increasingly impoverished and decapitalized health care, lacking resources and resources. "

In this regard, Martín has once again demanded that the regional government reopen the centers of primary care in Lorca in the afternoon permanently.

"Their cuts are collapsing the system and have caused an unbearable workload for the medical and nursing teams, which are overwhelmed," he said.
