The Councilor for Health and Consumption in the City of Lorca, María del Carmen Ruiz, reported that tonight will proceed to apply a phytosanitary treatment in the parks of San José and El Calvario especially aimed at the eradication of flying insects.
We are talking about an initiative encompassed within the actions that are being developed on a regular basis by the City Council in order to keep the presence of certain insects, especially mosquitoes and flies, at the lowest levels, as far as possible.
The implementation of this fumigation is derived from the appearance of these annoying beings as a result of the rains registered days ago, which have followed a series of days characterized by high temperatures.
This combination of elements has contributed in a decisive way to the reproduction of the aforementioned insects, so that from this municipal area the corresponding treatment will be executed.
María del Carmen Ruiz has pointed out that for this reason, the Department of Health recommends residents living in the area to proceed to the closing of their home windows from midnight today (00:00 hours), and the withdrawal of domestic animals from the outside (bird cages), as well as not leaving clothes lying down, avoiding the walk of domestic animals, as well as other habitual measures in these cases.
The Councilor for Health has anticipated that the treatment that is planned to be applied tonight will be carried out by specialized operators on the landscaped areas of these areas of the city, including garden areas, trees and hedges, as these are precisely the elements in which insects are usually found as well as their places of reproduction.
The fumigation will have the main attack substance Cypermethrin, a pyrethroid insecticide of high efficiency and broad spectrum, which is used regularly for its high efficiency against a wide range of pests in agriculture, health and livestock.
It is a contact poison that also has an insect repellent effect.
