Mateos proposes short-term measures to minimize the effects of possible episodes of torrential rain in Lorca (01/10/2018)

The PSOE will present a motion to the Plenary of the City of Lorca to propose to the Confederation of Segura Hydrographic and Government Delegation the realization of more short and medium term actions, complementary to the studies that the Government of Spain is already expediting for the construction of the future dams of Nogalte, Béjar and Torrecilla

The Spokesman of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Diego José Mateos proposes actions "in the short and medium term" to minimize the effects that could cause an episode of torrential rains in the municipality.

While waiting for the studies that the Government of Spain is already expediting for the construction of the future rolling dams in Nogalte, Béjar and Torrecilla, Mateos urges the local, regional and national administrations to promote a "comprehensive review" of the state of the public watercourses and channels of the municipality of Lorca and the adoption of corrective measures, of a preventive nature, to mitigate the consequences of possible floods such as that of the fateful September 28.

Among the actions that Mateos proposes, and which will be moved to the next municipal plenary session through a motion, highlights the need to increase and maintain the tasks of cleaning the channels and bracers, and the urgency of carrying out actions to correct the alterations of the channels .

To do this, Mateos will ask the Lorca City Council to ask the Segura Hydrographic Confederation to monitor and clean the watercourses and public waterways.

It will also ask the CHS to perform surveillance, control, information and sanctions related to the use of the ramblas as waste dumps or dumps, or on the express prohibition of sand extraction.

In relation to the Béjar ravine, Mateos calls for the leveling of the land, and the construction of containment dikes in order to slow down the water speed and, in addition, the trawls are used to fill and compensate for changes in the channel.

In the same way, Mateos will ask the City Council of Lorca to carry out the necessary and committed actions to increase the drainage capacity from the bridges of the Lorca-Águilas expressway to the Vao bridge.

It is also necessary to channel the different watercourses to Biznaga's, since without this drainage the rest of the actions could alleviate the situation but they would not solve the serious problem that a large part of Campillo faces.

"These are measures that, due to their nature, can be carried out in a short period of time, so they only require the political will to develop them," says Mateos.

"It can not be that the years go by and that actions like these continue to be delayed, while the situation is getting worse." Administrations have to be sensitive once and for all to the concern of these thousands of families from Lorca who tremble whenever time threatens with raining. "

In parallel, the spokesman of the PSOE will remain extremely aware of the progress of studies on the preliminary projects for the construction of future rolling dams of Nogalte, Béjar and Torrecilla, which the Government of Spain is already streamlining, as announced a few days the Delegate of the Government, Diego Conesa.
