The new sports pavilion Juan Zurano de Lorca serves more than 20,000 students (05/10/2018)

In total the works in these educational centers have involved an investment of 6 million euros

The new Juan Zurano sports pavilion serves more than 20,000 students in Lorca.

The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Adela Martinez-Cachá, participated in the act in which the pavilion is named and stressed that "these actions demonstrate the commitment of the regional government with Lorca."

The architecture of the building distinguishes two bodies, one of lower height for four changing rooms for students and two for monitors, toilets, concierge, first aid kit, two stores for sports equipment, a boiler room and a lobby and another nine meters of height, which houses the sports hall, where the handball, football, basketball and volleyball courts are located.

The site where it is located is within a school campus of more than 35,000 square meters, where the two institutes are built, so that the total area of ​​the pavilion is 1,799 square meters.

The pavilion's tender budget amounted to 904,963 euros.

In total, the works in the IES José Ibáñez Martín and in the Francisco Ros Giner have involved an investment of 6 million euros.

Of them, more than one million euros have been earmarked for the development and adaptation of the common sports areas and 4,5 for the construction of the new institute and the sports pavilion.

"We are providing students and teachers with the necessary tools to develop their work and improve educational quality," said the counselor, who referred to the Educational Infrastructure Plan 2018-2019 that includes more than 20 million to undertake 116 actions in infrastructure almost the totality of the municipalities of the Region and that "it is a sample of the commitment of the Community with the education, one of the pillars of the future of the Region".

Juan Zurano Pavilion

The new pavilion bears the name of Juan Zurano, at the proposal of the City of Lorca and as a tribute to the Lorca referring to the world of cycling in the municipality, which was present at the event.

The counselor thanked the work carried out by Zurano over many years and "his great contribution to the promotion of sports in general and cycling in particular in the city of Lorca."

Juan Zurano Jerez was a professional cyclist between 1971 and 1976. His greatest sporting success was achieved in the Vuelta a España where he won a stage victory in the 1973 edition.
