The Mayor points out that the professional qualification "Making and restoration of embroideries" would come to recognize academically the know-how of our embroiderers, with whom this city maintains a debt of infinite gratitude.
The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, thanked on behalf of all Lorca's work being carried out by the Ministry of Education and Sports so that the work of Lorca embroidery has the academic recognition it deserves as a qualification professional under the name "Confection and restoration of embroideries".
Fulgencio Gil said that today we can congratulate an extraordinary news, we are facing a very special day that gives us a new milestone for the collective feeling of our city.
We talk about the most important issue of our traditions, which is leading us to be known all over the world for having the ability to turn an artisan practice, as in the case of embroidery, into a true art.
It is not necessary more than to contemplate some of the magnificent pieces that treasure our Steps of Holy Week to be conscious of which the hands of the embroiderers lorquinas have elevated the category of a traditional work to an artistic level without comparison.
Lorca can and should continue to spread a manifestation of art that is found only in our city.
Each stitch of our embroiderers has the strength of a feeling that we carry deep inside, and each one of them transfers to these creations the love for Lorca and the pride of a people that explodes in emotions and color in their processions.
The Mayor stressed that embroidery is above all, is what makes our Easter in something unique, and has led to other municipalities try to imitate us, but the originality of this work and its elevation to the category of art is our seal, it is our particular "Marca Lorca".
Only in Lorca can you admire these wonders, because we have been able to transform an artisan activity into a true art, so sooner or later we will obtain recognition as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, something for which we have managed to become candidates officially.
Fulgencio Gil has underlined that the professional certification for which the Ministry of Education is already working in a very rigorous and solid manner, with the Adela Martínez-Cachá leader, comes to fulfill a recognition debt that we have with our embroiderers, and We hope that it will be a stimulus to achieve the generational relief that is so needed in the workshops of our Steps.
It is a giant step for our embroidery to occupy the place it deserves as unique art in the world.
The First Edil recalled that the work being carried out by the City, in coordination with the Association "The art of embroidery of Lorca and its staging in the biblical-passional parades, continues to overcome stages, which to date they have led us to count, for example, with the only textiles from Spain that have deserved the category of Cultural Interest (BIC).
Fulgencio Gil has indicated that all Lorca have the responsibility to continue increasing and taking care of even the smallest detail of our embroidery so that the quality of this art is exceeded.
We can not accommodate ourselves or be satisfied, since we would be betraying all Lorca who with their efforts have placed embroidery on the top.
We have the obligation to pay tribute to those who have placed us in this situation of privilege trying to improve them, at the same time we keep the jewels that bequeathed us.
Lorca asks TVE for the relay of the procession of Good Friday 2019
Fulgencio Gil has reiterated that he is going to request TVE this year, on the occasion of the XXV anniversary of the broadcast of our biblical-passional Holy Week parades by the RTVE group, through its second channel (La2) and the International channel , re-broadcast our Good Friday.
We are aware that every year it is not possible, for obvious reasons, to make this kind of proposal, but we want to take advantage of this anniversary so that Spain puts her eyes on Lorca again, and this time not because of a tragic event, but because of our Greater expression as a city.
The Mayor has indicated that this issue would contribute to continue promoting the candidacy of the Lorquino Embroidery and its Staging in the Biblical-Passional Parades of Holy Week for its declaration as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
We are talking about a matter of special importance for the whole municipality, which would help strengthen Lorca socially, culturally and touristically, and which, in addition, constitutes one of the most important challenges of this City Council.
The Mayor has indicated that to promote this candidacy, from the City Council is going to claim RTVE the relay of the procession of Good Friday next year, coinciding with the fact that the XXV Anniversary of one of the most relevant moments is fulfilled international of our processions, as was the broadcast by TVE of the Good Friday parade, directed by Pilar Miró, and which made it possible to publicize a social, cultural and religious event unparalleled worldwide.
