The City Council will signal several roads of the city under the denomination of ciclocalles with the objective of prioritizing the displacements on foot and by bicycle (08/10/2018)

The first street that has been painted with the "Movicíclate" pictograms has been the Camino de los Chaparros with the objective of joining the roundabout of the old Puente de Vallecas with the Puente de la Pía and the Cazalla bike path.

It should be noted that Lorca has an extensive network of bicycle lanes of more than 30 kilometers.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, along with the Councilor for Urban Mobility of the City of Lorca, Belén Pérez, and the President of LorcaBiciudad, Manuel Martín, attended this morning at the beginning of the process of horizontal signage with the "Movicíclate" pictograms in the Camino de los Chaparros, with the objective of joining the roundabout of the old Puente de Vallecas with the Puente de la Pía and the bike path.

Fulgencio Gil has indicated that "following the recommendations set out in the Urban Sustainable Mobility Plan of Lorca (PMUS), the City of Lorca has begun a battery of actions to specifically signal some roads in the city under the name of ciclocalles. The objective of this initiative is to prioritize non-motorized journeys, that is, pedestrians and bicycles, in order to improve urban mobility. Also, it should be remembered that in the city we already have other cycle routes in the neighborhood of La Viña, Pérez Casas (from the headquarters of the Paso Morado to the roundabout of Pérez Casas and its adjacent ones), as well as the city center (from the bridge of the San Cristóbal neighborhood to the Óvalo along the Lope Gisbert street) ".

The Mayor of Lorca has added that "specifically with the signaling of the Chaparros Way is intended to support the many users who travel through this road that connects the districts of the Lorca orchard with the city center, and is used daily by neighbors or by athletes who frequent the greenway or the Cazalla bike path to exercise, either with the bicycle or running, so this new signage will increase their safety and encourage the use of it ".

Gil has indicated that "this is a first action that aims to unite the many bike lanes with the city has itineraries that reinforce the use of the bicycle to reduce the number of trips by car and thus get In addition, the creation of these combined cycle and bike lanes itineraries will make the city have a large network that connects one end of the city with the other and offers the possibility of having new users of this means of transport that can go, for example, from the neighborhood of Apolonia to the polygon Saprelorca by bicycle ".

The First Edil, in this sense, recalled that "Lorca has an extensive network of lanes of almost 35 kilometers that run throughout our city." The users have at their disposal the Cazalla bike lane with 8 km of travel; The Torrecilla that joins the neighborhood of San Antonio with the Saprelorca Polygon, passing through the Rafael Méndez Hospital, San José that runs parallel to the Adolfo Suarez Avenue and that begins in Pérez Casas and ends in the Barrio de San Antonio, Ronda Sur, uniting the old Puente de Vallecas with the shopping center, the Carretera de Águilas with more than 10 kilometers and the Carretera de Murcia, which will soon be joined by Avenida de Europa, which will also connect with San Diego; Alameda de Cervantes, which will come into operation in the coming days, it should also be noted that Lorca also has numerous parking facilities that are distributed throughout the city.
