The PSOE calls for measures to strengthen and help the businesses affected by the works in Alameda de Cervantes and Avenida Europa (09/10/2018)

The deputy spokesman of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Isidro Abellán has claimed economic compensation and special campaigns to help the merchants affected by the works in Alameda de Cervantes, close to its completion, as well as facing the announced renovation of Avenida Europa.

Abellán has warned that the works in Alameda de Cervantes are assuming a genuine "handicap" for businesses.

The poor planning of the work, together with the elimination of up to 200 parking spaces has been a real "blow" for businesses is translating into a decline in sales activity of up to 50% as well as the disappearance of posts of employment.

These losses motivated by the planning "at the height of the bush" of the works has led many businesses to lower the blind, and those who survive "do it with difficulty."

Therefore, Abellán has insisted on the need for the City of Lorca look "once and for all" for the small and medium trade, so punished in recent years in the city.

The socialist mayor says that "now more than ever" it is necessary to undertake a Plan for the Reactivation of Trade, especially in the areas affected by the works, which includes "aid with the aim of strengthening local trade through support measures that allow small and medium businesses to "maintain jobs, contribute to the payment of rental income and their Social Security contributions".

Among the measures demanded by the Socialists in support of these businesses, include reductions in municipal taxes such as garbage collection or those relating to reservations of entry and exit of vehicles, as well as occupation of public roads for terraces .

Or also discounts on the Mechanical Traction Vehicle Tax for those commercial vehicles of the businesses located in these zones.

These and other measures will be proposed for the next debate of the Fiscal Ordinances.

It is not the first time that the PSOE requests the PP government team support measures to the businesses affected by the works.

Before the start of the works in Alameda de Cervantes, the PSOE put on the table this battery of measures to support these businesses in anticipation of the consequences that these works would bring to local commerce.

However, both the Mayor and his councilors refused to act and, in fact, the affected merchants have not received "neither a single help nor fiscal benefit that contributes to alleviating the harmful effects that the works have and have had on their activity".

In addition to these measures, Abellán asks that the initiatives that were developed to boost consumption on the occasion of the inauguration of Avenida Juan Carlos I now reach areas such as the Alameda de Cervantes.

"A new discrimination between neighborhoods would be inadmissible, since the campaign that the City Council did promote for the Avenue trade after the works was never done in neighborhoods like San Diego, La Viña, San José or Los Ángeles and Apolonia".

In addition, facing the next renovation of Avenida Europa, from the PSOE demand "maximum citizen participation."

Neighbors and merchants must be informed "to the millimeter" about the execution deadlines and we also demand that they be "scrupulous" in the exact fulfillment of the same.
