The Councilor for Health of the City of Lorca, María del Carmen Ruiz, has opened this morning a training session that has been held at the University Campus of Lorca to mark the World Food Day, declared by the United Nations Organization for the Food and Agriculture, FAO, and whose anniversary is commemorated today.

María del Carmen Ruiz pointed out that "the Guadanatura Association (Association of Producers and Consumers of Natural Foods of Guadalentín) has organized this training day with the aim of raising awareness about the problem of food on the planet Earth. that bad eating habits and sedentary activity are causing great problems in the health of young people According to the latest studies 45% of the child population are obese and overweight, a reality that seriously affects growth and cognitive development, but not only that, but paradoxically there is also a large percentage of people suffering from malnutrition, so we must reflect on how the distribution of food is made. "

The Councilor for Health has said that "for all of this, from the City Council and from associations like Guadanatura we have opted to disseminate this type of activities to encourage a change in the methods of food and life, as well as to promote and improve food. We must raise awareness about the implementation of healthy lifestyles, away from sedentary lifestyle, counting on sports as the main and effective alternative. Educating in these habits is the best investment we can make, therefore, from the Department of Health we collaborate as throughout the year with the educational centers of our municipality to carry out actions like the one carried out today ".

During the event, the presentation "Alternatives agrifoods in the face of climate change and food (in) security" was presented by José María Egea, Professor of Botany at the University of Murcia;

which followed different round tables led by members of the CAERM (Council of Organic Agriculture of the Region of Murcia), Eva Maria Sendra, volunteer of the Social Emergency Unit and Carmen Frontela, professor of the University Campus of Lorca degree of Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
