IU-V takes to the full municipal industrial decline of Lorca and the need to boost the secondary sector (16/10/2018)

Sosa demands the Mayor put on the table a diagnosis of the sector and immediate actions in the face of the Coopbox labor crisis

Pedro Sosa, Spokesman of the Municipal Group of IU-Green in the City of Lorca, appeared this morning before the media to advance the content of the motion to be defended at the next municipal plenary session, and that brings cause of the labor crisis in the current situation affects the company Coopbox, its more than possible record of employment regulation and the entry of it into a bankruptcy.

Sosa recalled that just a year ago the local PP in the government rejected a proposal of IU-V to boost the industrial sector in Lorca.

In it we already pointed out that our municipality was losing progressively and for years the traditional props of the secondary sector of the local economy, adding that in the central years of the economic crisis (between 2009 and 2013) the number of industrial establishments was reduced from 577 to 495, no less than 82 companies.

After those years to date the trickle of closures has not stopped.

Last year almost a hundred workers of the tanning company "Tenería lorquina" ended up in the street as a result of a business closure.

Several thousand workers used the sector of tanning in Lorca, and today there are only very few hundreds left.

The textile is practically gone with the implications that this has had on women's employment.

Multinationals like the cement company closed a few years ago, leaving hundreds of workers in the street.

In the liquidation of the textile, the tanning and the disappearance of the cement, in addition to other factors, has also been decisive the commitment of political power for the speculation of land and housing and the derivation of many resources generated in the industry to inflate a bubble that broke out generating an unprecedented crisis, which has been loaded on the backs of those who had less responsibility in it: the workers.

As for Coopbox, Sosa requires the Mayor of Lorca that in addition to exploring the initiatives before the Institute of Development of the Region of Murcia (INFO), move to direct action and contact potential investors who can take over the company if in conflict persists.

It is not acceptable that a company that works, with highly qualified personnel and with a demand for its product in the market, has to close.

The Spokesman of IU-V has pointed out that if he were Mayor of Lorca, he would already have contacted companies in the meat sector and with food companies in search of investors who could commit to the maintenance of the activity.

But in addition to demanding concrete and specific actions around the specific problem of Coopbox, IU-V also wants to make a global debate on the industrial sector.

Sosa affirms that the third municipality of the Region is not even taken into account by the CARM to locate in it any of the technological centers that dot the regional geography (Crafts, Footwear and Plastic, Construction, ICT, Wood and Furniture, Marble , Metal, Naval and Sea, Energy and Environment, and Conservation) and that despite promises about the Technological Center for Cattle, which seemed imminent in 2008, or the Technological Center of Water that was spoken there in 2005 .

In the motion of IU-V in addition to setting specific actions around the problem of Coopbox, Sosa will add the requirement to proceed to the analysis of the regional and state strategic planning in force, to determine the strategic opportunities that for our municipality can derive from this planning, as well as that the CARM government is urged to take up the location in Lorca of the technological centers of Water and Livestock.
