The Mayor requests that there be no further delays for the arrival of the buried AVE to Lorca (25/10/2018)

Fulgencio Gil claims that the neighbors are not harmed by the construction of walls of 15 meters high in each of the crossings projected on roads, which would entail a strong impact, in addition to the expropriation of many properties.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has requested that there be no further delays in the arrival of the underground AVE to our city, given that the commitments made by the Government of Spain with the social groups and agents of Lorca provided for the publication of the informative study for the urban integration of the Mediterranean corridor in the city for last July.

We are aware that changes have taken place in the political landscape, but we demand that the commitments we get from the Ministry of Public Works be respected, and we have already accumulated several months of delay without being offered a clear answer, and without receiving information about it.

Fulgencio Gil has stressed that Lorca will always act with institutional loyalty in this issue, because we all have to be aware of the scale and significance of the arrival of the AVE to our city.

This issue is a city project, a historic opportunity, which has to allow us to complete one of the most outstanding aspirations of Lorca in terms of communications infrastructure, such as the recovery of the rail connection with Andalusia.

We are talking about correcting the biggest error that has been registered in Spain in terms of railways, a claim shared with many municipalities in our area of influence, including towns in Andalusia and Murcia.

The First Edil has said that he will request, within the proposals for improvement to the works planned for the arrival of the AVE to our city, that the Ministry change the initial idea to execute a step above the road in the middle of , replacing it with an inferior one, since it is an effective solution for all the neighbors who would be seriously harmed.

Therefore, we consider that it is a measure that responds to common sense, which does not constitute a substantial increase in the cost of the project and which, in turn, would be an advantage for all parties.

We believe that with the elimination of crossings on the rail infrastructure, territorial permeability and sectoral agricultural and livestock productivity would be promoted, since it avoids having to lose communication channels.

It is requested, therefore, that the upper passes of the D-3 (popularly known as Carreterica Nueva), of the Camino de Villaespesa and the one existing in the Camino de En medio, be exchanged for others of a lower type, taking advantage of the existing Currently, in order to benefit people, reduce the conditions and improve the layout of the crossings.

With the existing levels in these enclaves, the gradient of the underpasses would not be far below the natural terrain.

We would take charge from the Town Hall to the maintenance of the necessary facilities to pump the waters that hypothetically could be retained in case of episodes of heavy rainfall.

The City Council requests that the upper passage that existed in the limit of the municipality of Lorca (pk 235 + 650), which was demolished when the construction of the platform of the section between Totana and Lorca of the Alcantarilla-Lorca High Speed Mediterranean Corridor Construction Project.

With the replacement of this step, connectivity in this area of the municipal area is improved, since the nearest steps are several kilometers away.

Lorca also claims the elimination of a projected overpass in the vicinity of Los Olmillos (between the steps at the Mill of the Sierra and Camino de En medio), since they would concentrate in less than 2 kilometers 3 steps, increasing expropriations to neighbors.

This is a demand from the neighbors, backed by the Mayor, who states that the money that was going to be invested in this step is destined to the replacement of the overpass that was eliminated in La Hoya in 2009.

There are several private buildings that have been affected by the construction of high-rise concrete walls next to them (M-242.3, PS-243.5, M-244.8 and PS-245.6).

It is requested that the solution given in the project be reconsidered and a less invasive one proposed.

With respect to the transversal drainage, the City Council proposes that more drainage works be incorporated and that the existing ones of 2.2 m be extended, given the risk that a possible plugging of the frames could lead to flooding upstream of the platform of the Mediterranean Corridor, producing the dreaded "dam" effect, with the consequent risk for the people who reside there and the existing goods.

Once the planned gradients have been studied, it is requested that, always considering the corresponding technical requirements, an attempt be made to adjust the gradients more to the existing terrain and to the planned transversal drainage works, since very high red heights are observed along the entire length of the platform to execute.

With the possible reduction of the level of the slope we would obtain, among others, the following advantages: a minor alteration of the landscape, improving the visual impact;

a lower superficial occupation of the affected properties and, therefore, a lower loss of soil and of agricultural productivity;

a smaller volume of fillings (very deficient in this project, with a volume coming from quarries exceeding 3.5 million cubic meters), etc.

Fulgencio Gil has appealed to the sensitivity of the Ministry of Development with these just requests, and has anticipated that these will be the main issues that will be transmitted to him personally in the next meeting he has requested for that purpose in the dependencies of the aforementioned Ministry.
