The PP rejects the PSOE's proposal to open a Local Police Barracks in the Barrio de San Cristóbal (05/11/2018)

The Socialists presented a motion to the ordinary Plenary Session of the City Council in October in which they asked the PP Government team to establish a Local Police Barracks with a permanent checkpoint in the San Cristóbal neighborhood, given the demographic nature of the area. El Barrio and the increase in citizen insecurity in recent months.

The councilor of the Municipal Socialist Group in the City of Lorca, David Romera, has conveyed the refusal of the PP Government team to enable a Local Police Barracks with a permanent catch of troops in the neighborhood of San Cristóbal de Lorca, asserting its absolute majority.

Last Monday, during the celebration of the ordinary plenary session for the month of October, Romera proposed and defended through a motion, the need to open a Local Police Barracks in the neighborhood of Lorca "being a fair vindication of neighborhood and business groups settled in the neighborhoods of San Cristobal, San Diego, Ramblilla de Tejares, Los Angeles and Apolonia for years.

The socialist mayor stressed that "since he is governing the PP in Lorca, has been punished the residents of El Barrio with the suppression or transfer of public services of great importance to ensure the welfare of the population" as the Informajoven, the emergency service of Primary Care in San Diego or the disappearance in September 2011 of the Local Police Headquarters that was located next to the University Campus, which is generating, in his opinion, "the depreciation of homes and businesses settled in El Barrio "because the disappearance of services reduces attractiveness and quality of life to the residents of the area," who are very upset with this situation "when establishing a comparative grievance with other areas of the city.

Romera explained that "there are plenty of reasons to establish a permanent blockade of the local police in El Barrio" given the economic and demographic entity in this area, where more than 20,000 inhabitants live;

its population growth in more than 2,500 inhabitants in the last decade;

and in the increase of crimes against the security of goods and people, which translates into citizen insecurity perceived by neighbors in the streets of El Barrio, especially at night.

In addition, adds the socialist mayor, in recent years there has been a transfer from the PP security and emergency centers in the center of the city to the outskirts that has further removed them from El Barrio as it is the new location of the Barracks of the Local Police in the Ronda Sur and the National Police Station in Sutullena (with which there is no connection by urban transport), while the Civil Guard Barracks are still located in the other end of Lorca.

The PP opposed "frontally and vehemently" to the establishment of a local police barracks in the neighborhood of San Cristóbal despite the promise of the former mayor Francisco Jódar more than seven years ago, the maintenance of a permanent police checkpoint Local next to the University Campus after the transfer of the facilities to the Ronda Sur, "for what was lied" to the neighbors of El Barrio;

promise that the successive PP government teams "have repeatedly failed despite the continuous demands of the neighborhood and business groups in the area, which are turned away" in the face of increasing public insecurity.

The need for a permanent blockade of the Local Police in the area of El Barrio "has to be a real priority", both to ensure citizen security in the area and to satisfy any administrative management, to directly inform the non-compliance of Municipal Ordinances, prevent antisocial actions, formulate claims or effect the payment of sanctions.

Finally, Councilman David Romera has said that, despite the opposition of the PP, his Municipal Group "will continue to claim" the need to enable in El Barrio a Local Police Barracks with a permanent checkpoint to serve the five affected neighborhoods, as in the municipality of Murcia, which has 10 Local Police barracks.

In the same way, the PSOE will continue to demand the filling of vacancies in the Local Police of Lorca and an increase in the numbers of both the National Police and the Civil Guard in order to improve citizen security in Lorca and with it increase in level of well-being and quality of life of the population.

Problems with the works of Charco street

Romera has also demanded the PP government team to accelerate the regeneration works of Charco Street in the neighborhood of San Cristobal, which are running with "a great slowness", which is causing discomfort and inconvenience to the residents of the area taking into account that the street is a busy place and access to a school.

The work was awarded in mid-2017 for 681,000 euros and the execution period was six months.

The work began in September and was due to end in March 2018, "deadline that ended seven months ago and the street is still half repaired in the absence of urbanization work" even though in the collaboration agreement between City Council and Counseling of Development (BOE No. 141, 06-22-2015), the work had to be completed before May 2016.

Therefore, Romera asks the mayor of Works "to be diligent, to empathize with the residents of the streets Charco and Turbinto who have been suffering the inconveniences of the works for too long, with long stoppages in their execution, and order the acceleration of the same ones so that they finish as soon as possible ", hoping that they are solved once and for all the problems of flooding that the zone undergoes whenever it rains in spite of the suppression of a great scupper existing in the crossing with the Turbinto street.

In the same way, it also demanded the execution of the regeneration works planned in the Calvario Viejo street and the anchurón of the Gilberte street, in the high part of San Cristóbal, promised to the neighbors for more than two years.
