Lorca presents the experience of 5 initiatives developed by collectives and educational centers as better sustainable projects and environmental protection (13/11/2018)

These are the proposals of Lorca Biciudad, the Ramón Arcas Mecca Institute, O2 Forest, as well as the San Francisco de Asís and Virgen de las Huertas Schools, which have been directed to the "The Ecólatras Region" program, promoted by the Ministry of Education. Environment.

The delegate councilor of the municipal cleaning company (Limusa), Juan Francisco Martínez, together with Roberto Fuentes, Area manager of Ecovidrio, have informed that our city participates in the program "The Region of the Ecólatras" with 5 projects that propose solutions original, creative and innovative to current environmental challenges such as efficient use of resources, reduction in energy consumption or recycling itself.

The initiative, which has the support of the Ministry of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment, intends to continue increasing the amount of glass that is collected and recycled as one of the ways to advance in the protection of the environment.

Martínez Carrasco explained that during 4 weeks, until December 12, information and awareness actions are developed in 5 municipalities (Alcantarilla, Cartagena, Fuente Álamo, Lorca and Torre Pacheco), in which citizens, associations and institutions to develop projects that bet on sustainability and the circular economy.

These initiatives are visible in the platform ecolatras.es, in the section of "The Region of Ecólatras", at the initiative of the non-profit entity, Ecovidrio, which must be accessed in order to capture the citizen's vote. support for it.

The Lorca proposals are:

1 - The forest of your school (BosqueO2).

The aim is to encourage the participation of schoolchildren in tree planting and sponsorship, so that they can learn values ​​and know, through a personalized card, the benefits created.

The activity involves moving the children of the school interested in a farm, and on the ground they are given a talk about the important role that forests play in our semi-arid environment.

2 - Technicians of the Arcas (IES Ramón Arcas Meca).

The students and professors of 4th ESO Technology from the IES Ramón Arcas Meca participate in it, and their development through the Ecólatras Region will allow them to work on energy efficiency, sustainability, the design of objects and technical systems in a much more close to the business world and society.

3 - Recycling the air (Lorcabiciudad).

LorcaBiciudad promotes the use of non-polluting media and encourages more cycling.

With the Entidades Bici-amigas project, it tries to encourage the population to use the car less and do their daily activities by bicycle in their own neighborhood or district.

And as one of the most daily activities is the purchase of each day, we try that entities of all kinds are "accomplices" of this revolution providing facilities to their customers and visitors so that they leave the bicycle somewhere safe while they make purchases or receive its services.

4 - Collaborative glass collection (Colegio San Francisco de Asís).

San Francisco School undertakes a large collaborative glass collection with the educational community including students, faculty and AMPA.

5- Sustainability and environmental awareness (Colegio Virgen de las Huertas).

The School Virgen de las Huertas has prepared with its students a video to raise awareness about sustainability and the environment.

For example the use of the bicycle instead of a motor vehicle, the recycling of the waste that we generate at home for its reuse, the maximum use of sunlight to avoid consuming electrical energy ...

Prize of 1,500 euros for the best initiative.

During the last edition, the Region of Murcia was the second autonomous community in which there was a greater number of participants (1,459), only surpassed by the Community of Madrid (4,204), and with some distance over the following, the Valencian Community (1.069).

The best initiative will have a cash prize of 1,500 euros as financial aid to develop it.

Among the other participants who register on the platform, whether to support, share or disseminate one of these projects, five exclusive mini igloos will be raffled with the image of this informative campaign.

In 2018, in addition to support for this initiative of the ecologists, Limusa and the City of Lorca participate with Ecovidrio in the dissemination of the glass recycling message among the hospitality sector, for which it has the direct participation of Hostelor.

In the first week of the campaign, 79 establishments were visited, of which 53% are non-recyclers.

88% of these establishments have already requested the Ecovidrio cube to facilitate the transport of the waste to the nearest container, implying more in the recovery of this waste.

The first phase of this campaign, developed in October, has been to promote the participation of associations, institutions or people, who could present their initiative or sustainable project on the website www.ecolatras.es.

In this second phase, the vote and citizen participation are promoted.

Starting today, anyone can register as Ecólatra on the aforementioned website and vote using likes within the section "The Region of the Ecólatras" the initiative that considers that it must win the € 1,500 prize.

In addition, among all the people who register to support, share or disseminate an initiative, 5 exclusive miniglús will be drawn with the image of "The Region of the Ecólatras".

Glass collection

The Councilman of Limusa has stated that the collection and recovery of glass packaging waste in the Region of Murcia was in 24,785 tons in 2017, of which Lorca contributed 889 tons, which is about 10 kilos per inhabitant per year.

Last year was the 25th anniversary of the implementation of this service in the municipality.
