The PSOE takes a motion to the Plenary to demand more water resources for the Community of Irrigators of Lorca and the Community of Campo Alto (21/11/2018)

The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Antonio Navarro has announced that the Socialist Group will present a motion at the next ordinary plenary session in order to gather as much support as possible for the Lorca council to demand "all administrations and agencies" the necessary steps to provide more water resources to the Community of Irrigators of Lorca and the Community of Regantes Campo Alto.

Specifically, the PSOE will seek the support of the rest of the political forces for the Lorca City Council to ask the Segura Hydrographic Confederation to respond to the request of the Community of Irrigators of Lorca regarding their request for the new supply of desalinated water from of the Águilas-Guadalentín desalination plant, and at the same time, so that everything possible is done with the objective of obtaining the 1hm3 endowment claimed by the Community of Regantes Campo Alto.

Navarro says that we are facing a "unique" opportunity now that we intend to expand the water production of the desalination plant, in 10 cubic hectometres.

"It is time to stop doing politics with water to start working together to get, wherever and before anyone, the resources that our irrigators need," stresses the socialist mayor.

Without renouncing any resource, Navarro insists that it is "indispensable" to extract the "maximum yield" from the resources available to us, among them, the Águilas-Guadalentín desalination plant, and for which he highlights, "we need to continue working to that his performance reaches the maximum and can endow our field with the necessary water in periods of drought that impede the supply from other points ".

The PSOE of Lorca describes as "error and injustice" the decision of the Ministry and requires that water be transferred to irrigated

For its part, the Spokesman of the PSOE in Lorca, Diego José Mateos has assessed as "tremendous and unjust error" the decision of the Ministry of Transition Ecology to transfer only water for human consumption, so they demand the Government to "reconsider their position and keep on pouring also for irrigation. "

"We must all be aware and we have to recognize that the biggest problem that the Murcian field has been facing for a long time, and therefore that of our municipality, is the lack of water," he says.

"To alleviate the water deficit has been, is and will be a priority for us, and for that reason it will not matter to us, never, to claim whoever governs the resources that our irrigators need, because the daily sustenance of thousands of people depends on it. base their family economy of the agri-food sector ", adds the mayor.

"We will not do as did the PP All Murcia remember the complicit silence of the entire regional PP, including Lorca, who were not heard or breathe when the Government of Rajoy imposed the memorandum with which limited the amount of water transferred from the Tagus to the Segura.
