Ciudadanos Lorca proposes to install bird observatories in the marshes of Puentes and Valdeinfierno (22/11/2018)

Citizens will propose to the Plenary the installation of two bird observatories in the marshes of Puentes and Valdeinfierno, in order to enhance the educational and tourist appeal of both environments.

The Cs motion asks the Segura Hydrographic Confederation to install these infrastructures, emphasizing that they must have "minimal landscaping impact and be constructed of wood, in addition to being used in small groups so as not to disturb the fauna and at the same time give to know more citizens the great wealth that both environments treasure, "said local spokesman Orange, Antonio Meca.

"These bird observatories are common in other areas of Spain, and in addition to obvious educational and informational purposes, they also constitute a tourist attraction for nature lovers," said the mayor.

The motion states that access to these infrastructures is usually free, and are equipped with binoculars or telescopes available to visitors, as well as specialized bibliography for consultation.

They also have various information panels related to the history of the environment, legends, fauna and vegetation, wintering and nesting birds and history of the city.

"It would be a unique opportunity to enhance our natural heritage, taking into account that the Puentes reservoir is the largest freshwater lagoon in our municipality, a place surrounded by attractive environmental enclaves, such as the largest taris forest in Europe", Meca has highlighted.

The birdlife of Puentes does not go unnoticed by ornithologists, bird lovers or lovers of photography, who usually visit the reservoir specifically to make observations of the many species that make up this characteristic environment.

For its part, the Valdeinfierno reservoir has the largest colony of griffon vultures.

But this mountainous part of Lorca, in the deputation of Culebrina, is also a paradise for raptors, in addition to the griffon vulture, the golden eagle, short-toed eagle, booted eagle, peregrine falcon or the eagle owl, as well as woodpeckers, chickadees, tits, waterfowl and waders.
