The scope of action includes some 61,680 square meters and the term of execution of the works will be 10 months
The Autonomous Community puts out to tender the works of urban regeneration of the Lorca neighborhood of San Antonio valued at 4,750,000 euros, which will consist of the liberation of public space, pedestrianization of viable to promote accessibility, renovation of urban infrastructures and improvement of the energy efficiency.
The actions that will be carried out are aimed at repairing and conditioning the public spaces damaged by the 2011 earthquakes and also improving the urban services to the neighbors, such as sewage, stormwater, potable water, gas, electricity and telecommunications networks .
The main action of these works is the construction of a lower pass under the existing roundabout that connects the A-7 motorway with the RM-11 highway, which will contribute to the decongestion of the neighborhood's traffic.
The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Patricio Valverde, stressed that "this intervention is part of the plan of urban renewal works promoted by the regional government for the comprehensive reconstruction of Lorca, whose objective is the recovery and development of the social and economic fabric of the city".
The works will be developed in coordination with the town council of Lorca, which will make available the land necessary for the execution of the works and will provide technical support for the drafting of the projects.
The scope of action includes some 61,680 square meters and the term of execution of the works will be 10 months.
The investment to be made in the neighborhood is distributed in the 2018 and 2019 annuities and will be financed by the Community under the loan contracted with the European Investment Bank (EIB).
Solve congestion problems
Half of the budget of the work will be used to solve the congestion problems suffered by the roundabout of the connection link of the A-7 motorway with the RM-11 motorway or the Aguilas- fast track in Lorca, which would also allow greater accessibility from the neighborhood to the rest of the city of Lorca.
In the current roundabout, all the entry and exit movements are concentrated from the A-7 motorway, the start of the RM-11 highway, the Granada highway (former N-340) and the access to the San Juan Bosco Secondary Education Institute. .
According to the owner of Development, "this action will definitively resolve the difficulties of road safety and pedestrian accessibility."
The intensity of road traffic is greater than 19,000 vehicles per day, to which must be added the pedestrian mobility, especially at the time of entry and exit of IES San Juan Bosco.
The work will consist in separating the movements that cross the roundabout, directing the main movement (from the A-7 towards the RM-11 road) in an underground trajectory under the roundabout towards a lower passage, with which said movement will be carried out directly without going through the roundabout and at a different level than the rest, which will mean a clear and notable decongestion of the current circulation.
