Diego José Mateos is committed to improving the internet connection in rural areas of the municipality of Lorca with poor coverage (09/01/2019)

Mateos claims that Internet access is produced in an equal manner in all territories, since today a good part of the districts of Lorca are located in the so-called "shadow areas" of connection to the network, which reduces the Economic and business development in our rural areas, makes it difficult for municipal management, such as Social Services or the Town Hall, and, ultimately, limits the opportunities for Lorca residents residing in districts

The PSOE candidate for Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos has called for the implementation of a plan to improve the Internet connection in rural areas of the municipality that, today, do not have good coverage.

Mateos assures that, even at this point of the century, a good part of our municipality is located in the known "shadow areas" of connection to the network, which hinders the possibilities of economic and business development in our rural areas, and limits the opportunities of the population that resides in the councils.

Mateos has vindicated the bet for the access to the new technologies and to a so basic tool in the times that run as it is the connection to Internet.

"It is unfair that, today, it is not ensuring that access to the Internet is equal in all the territories of the municipality."

Mateos has ensured that this lack of connectivity, in addition to hindering the implementation and / or development of companies in the districts, limits access to other services or benefits, including municipal, such as Social Services or the Service Citizen in districts.

So much so, assures Mateos, that these restrictions affect public services as essential to the citizen as Social Services or the Town Hall office can be.

"Our workers are faced with many difficulties when it comes to facilitating this type of necessary management to the neighbors, when accessing data, when dumping information to the management platforms, since the connection is very limited or even, non-existent".

"On many occasions our municipal workers look at them and they want them to be able to carry out the procedures requested by these neighbors, they do everything and more than they can despite the limited means they have, so we must recognize and praise their work ", Add.

It is not the first time that the PSOE proposes the implementation of an ambitious plan to improve connectivity in rural areas of the municipality.

Already during the plenary session last May, the Municipal Socialist Group requested, through a motion, that the Lorca City Council opt for the European WiFi4EU project in its different phases with the aim that all the districts of our municipality can have free WiFi and Internet connection in their public squares and buildings, "to facilitate access to all citizens equally."

This measure was included in a motion in which the PSOE also claimed improvements in the DTT signal in districts, as well as the implementation of ATMs in those areas affected by the "financial blackout".

However, Mateos regrets that this initiative, despite being approved unanimously by the Plenary of the City of Lorca, will not have the final commitment to be carried out by the Mayor and his Popular Party government team.

Diego José Mateos has reiterated that the exponential leap in interconnection and the use of online tools requires that access to the Internet be produced in an equal manner in all territories, something that, he insists, "does not happen today when we talk about our districts, which are located in what are known as shadow areas of internet connection ".

Areas such as Aguaderas, Zarcilla de Ramos or El Cantar, to give some examples, present a "very limited" Internet connection.

"We are talking about districts in which the arrival of internet signal is minimal, something that is unfair, since it is complicating a lot the approach of our neighbors to the possibilities of connection that technology allows, while they are missing opportunities of development, already difficult to implement in rural areas ", defends Diego José Mateos.

"This is yet another proof of the gap that still exists between our districts and the urban area, which is generating the population loss that concerns us so much.It is time to reverse all these years of abandonment towards our districts, not only in the maintenance of public services and municipal infrastructures, but also, when it comes to recovering investments to facilitate the lives of our neighbors, betting on the economic and social development of our rural areas and ultimately, so that, once again, the districts recount in the day to day of the City Council, "he adds.
