If the execution period of 12 months is not met, a public investment of more than two million euros could be lost

The councilor of Left Green United in the City council of Lorca, Gloria Martin, has denounced the unjustified delay in the works of urban regeneration of the neighborhoods of Christ the King and the Health, in the surroundings of the Vineyard, announced a year ago and contracted in July of last year.

The work, which will involve the investment of just over two million euros from the loan of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and have a deadline of 12 months, have not yet begun.

"We do not understand the reason why seven months of the execution period have already been consumed without having a esparto in La Salud or in Cristo Rey," said Martín, who regretted that these works follow the general trend of "delay and lack of coordination "that have characterized practically all the urban regeneration projects undertaken in Lorca after the 2011 earthquakes, of which the next 11th of May will be celebrated in the eighth anniversary.

The mayor of IU warned that this work is in danger of losing its funding if the calendar is not met, something more than foreseeable because "nothing points to the jobs are going to start imminently."

Martín recalled that, meanwhile, the neighbors have to walk on unfortunate sidewalks, unfinished zebra crossings or bus stops that do not meet the minimum security conditions, especially for people with reduced mobility.

Cyclists also have to deal with an intermittent cycle lane that, in some sections, is hindered by the parking of vehicles.

For all these reasons, Izquierda Unida demands that work be started immediately so that these neighborhoods have "decent" road infrastructures that connect them appropriately with the rest of their surroundings and make them "more functional" to boost economic activity and social life.
