The embroideries and the different passion of Holy Week lead the tourist promotion of Lorca to promote its declaration as World Heritage (23/01/2019)

The Mayor, Fulgencio Gil, highlights the work underway to finally achieve the dream that pursues an entire city: "that the work that Lorca displays in its streets every Holy Week is recognized worldwide as the true Art that is".

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, officially presented today at the International Tourism Fair of Madrid, Fitur, the main cultural, tourist and social attractions that our city develops, as is the case of our Weekly Bible-Passional Parades Santa

The First Edil stressed that the Holy Week of Lorca is "a different passion", which fuses tradition, popular participation and overwhelmed feeling.

The motto we use is the best definition of a representation that has also been aptly called "the collective madness of Lorca," trying to summarize the gale of feelings that converge in the City of the Sun. There is no place where you can contemplate an event like that.

The week of passion lorquina embraces every corner of the city for ten days in which art, dressage, music, passion and fervor converge to erect a unique festive, devotional and social explosion, inviting the visitor to enjoy it as one more.

All wrapped, in the manner of a gift, by the artistic trend that Lorca gives to the world: the art of embroidery, cultural manifestation that is a candidate to be declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO and that we can admire in cloaks, capetas , banners or banners, unparalleled works of art of which twelve have even been recognized with the cataloging of Cultural Interest.

Fulgencio Gil said that we are talking about a passion that does not last seven days, not even a season, but extends during the twelve months deploying an ambitious cultural and social agenda for the benefit of the municipality and all who come to the City of the Sun to witness this unique way of celebrating.

The embroidery and Easter museums are a good example of this.

MUBBLA, MASS, MUPAEM or Nicolás Salzillo have become reference centers for interpreting the art of embroidery thanks to the contemplation of the extraordinary works composed through the angelic hands of Lorca women: our embroiderers.

But they also promote temporary exhibitions, theatrical performances, concerts, solidarity actions and a very complete agenda that makes Lorca the cultural flag of the Region of Murcia and a space of exception for the interpretation of sacred art.

This Holy Week of 12 months is the perfect complement to a unique cultural heritage with the Castle in front, the unique medieval Synagogue, the spectacular Collegiate Church of San Patricio, museums such as the Archaeological, shields and coats of arms, natural landscapes of orchard and mountain range, virgin beaches of Puntas de Calnegre, an exceptional gastronomy and the warmth of a sun that blesses us more than 300 days a year and that is why it gives its name to our beloved city.

The rivalry between the great steps, White and Blue, makes possible the spirit of overcoming that has marked this celebration during the last century and a half, updating it and converting it into a praise of movement and elegance.

We have achieved a level of excellence without equal.

Together with them, incarnated, purple, Curia and resurrected, they find in the procession their natural habitat, and the best means to express their feelings.

The greatest civilizations come back to life.

Babylonians, Israelite tribes, Egyptian pharaohs, Roman emperors, Moses, Nebuchadnezzar, Julius Caesar, the Queen of Sheba, Cleopatra or Constantine resuscitate and parade with splendor through the Race.

And they do it in an articulated parade through the horses, handled with mastery by the rider or in hooks among which the quadriga or follow Roman.

Also gigantic floats, passion music or war music make up the language of our processions.

From this living museum, which is also the largest theater in the world, our career, Lorca and visitors, faithful brothers and tourists, more than 10,000 people, have the opportunity to attend a show that music, scenarios, interpretations and the frenzy, surpasses any classic peplum.

All this in an environment that can be touched, an atmosphere of handkerchiefs in the air and "alive" excited, of fans of feeling that take sides and express it in a proud and happy way.

But although the parade is spectacular, the celebration of Holy Week goes beyond the race, flooding the entire city without restrictions in terms of predetermined spaces and schedules.

In the churches, in the meetings, in the exhibitions of embroideries, in the rehearsals or in the collections of flags we can feel part of the celebration, take sides with one or another side and discover the ins and outs of this "different passion".
