Victorino Martín, Cristina Sánchez, Diego Urdiales, Manili and Antonio Miura will participate in Lorca in the IV Cultural Cycle of the Bullfighting Club of the City of the Sun (24/01/2019)

The cycle will run from February 1 to March 7, including gatherings, exhibitions, a charity blood donation marathon, a trip to two top-level ranches, the presentation of a book and tastings of fighting bull meat .

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, along with the President of the Bullfighting Club of Lorca, Juan Coronel, has presented his IV Cultural Cycle, which includes a program of activities very broad and full of events.

The Mayor has underlined the transcendental contribution that the Bullfighting Club of our city is making in defense of the promotion of the national holiday, precisely in the last years in which a radical, violent and extremist campaign against the world of the bull is being developed , starring people who have not yet been able to realize that there is no room for insults or contempt for those who do not think like you, a fundamental part of our country, where many of us recognize ourselves, being proud of our traditions, of development of our towns, to put our nativity scenes in public spaces, celebrate Christmas, support our Holy Week, and practice and assist with freedom to our ancestral uses, such as bullfighting.

A party that he extolled so much, for example the poet Federico García Lorca, without fear of being insulted and despised by those who now consider themselves superior for the simple act of thinking differently.

Fulgencio Gil has shared the words of Garcia Lorca when he said that "bullfighting is probably the greatest poetic and vital wealth of Spain, incredibly untapped by writers and artists, mainly due to a false pedagogical education" and that "the Toros is the most cultured party in the world today, it is the pure drama, in which the Spaniard spills his best tears and his best bile, it is the only place where he leaves with the certainty of seeing death surrounded by the most dazzling beauty. "

The Mayor has stressed that it is clear that ideology has never been an obstacle to recognize art and culture, even the one that is not understood, and this was also expressed by Rafael Alberti, Francisco de Goya, Manuel Machado, José Ortega y Gasset , Gerardo Diego, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, Vicente Alexandre, Pablo Neruda, and more recently Joaquín Sabina, Andrés Calamaro, Antonio Banderas and Pedro Almodóvar.

The cycle, which will run from February 1 to March 7, includes gatherings, exhibitions of painting and photography, a solidarity marathon for blood donation, a trip to two top-level herds, the presentation of a book, as well as as the possibility for the members and assistants to the gatherings to enjoy the best gastronomic delights elaborated with fighting bull meat in several restaurants of the city, this last activity in collaboration with Hostelor.

The president of the bullfighting club, Juan Coronel, wanted to thank the support of the City Council, Hostelor and all the people and institutions that make this cycle possible.

Likewise, he highlighted the level of scheduled events and the work that the Board of Directors is carrying out for and for the fans and in order to defend the values of bullfighting, socialize and dissociate it from ideological prejudices, noting that " The cycle tries to reflect some important events in the history of bullfighting and the Sutullena bullfighting during the last 40 years, from the 80s to the present, a period coinciding with the birth and consolidation of the current constitutional and democratic system after the dictatorship, and in which the bullfighting has not been alien to the changes produced in the Spanish society ".

The acts will begin next Friday, February 1, at 8:30 p.m., when trumpets and timbales will sound for the inauguration at the Huerto Ruano Palace of a magnificent exhibition entitled "Art of Bullfighting", by the renowned painter Albacete José Ángel Ramírez Cuenca.

The IV solidarity marathon of blood donation will take place on Thursday, February 7, from 17 to 21 hours at the Hospital Santa Rosa de Lima and, in addition to demonstrating again the solidarity of the world of bullfighting, will serve as training for the plate Strong program of events.

The next day, starting at 8:30 p.m., in the Culture Room of the Cajamurcia Foundation, it will be the turn for the first gathering, entitled "The livestock of the century against bullfighting of the era".

In this gathering, moderated by the journalist Ãñigo Crespo, will intervene the breeder Victorino Martín, whose iron of the crowned A was the last one to fight in the Sutullena bullring before the earthquakes and that today occupies the position of president of the Toro Foundation of Lidia, along with the right-hander Soriano José Luis Palomar.

The colloquium will serve to recall one of the most outstanding events of the eighties, as was the consolidation of Victorino Martín's livestock in the so-called "corrida del siglo" held in the Plaza de Las Ventas on June 1, 1982, After a memorable afternoon in which Palomar himself shared the Miguel Ruiz and Luis Francisco Esplá posters, serving in turn to reflect on the evolution of bullfighting from the eighties to the present.

The following weekend, from Friday the 15th to Sunday the 17th of February, will be the moment for the members to get closer to the life of the bull in the wild field, having the opportunity to know first hand the ins and outs of two herds of first level, such as the Resin Party (the legendary pablorromeros), whose horns graze in the heart of the Doñana National Park, and Dª Dolores Aguirre Ybarra, in whose farm in the Sierra Norte de Sevilla graze the pupils of the remembered cattle today in charge of his daughter María Isabel Lipperheide Aguirre.

For its part, the gathering "The legend returns to Sutullena", which will be held on Thursday, February 21 in the same place and time, will have the presence of the breeder Antonio Miura, owner of a legendary iron in the history of bullfighting and very linked to Sutullena's bullring, and Seville bullfighter Manuel Ruiz "Manili", will serve to remember the epic of a revolutionary stage in bullfighting, as well as to remember the career of bullfighter and livestock.

On this occasion, Ãñigo Crespo, who repeats the poster as a moderator will be accompanied by the young journalist Antonio José Candel.

As it could not be otherwise, the skilful Lorca Paco Ureña had to be also present in the cycle when it announces its reappearance in the month of March at the Fallas fair in Valencia.

It will do so through an extraordinary exhibition of monographic photography by Álvaro Marcos.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on Friday, February 22, at 8:30 p.m., in the Culture Hall of Cajamurcia and will remain open until March 7.

The benefits of the sale of the photographs will go entirely to the Fernández-Vega Ophthalmological Foundation.

The 80s will once again be the protagonist on Friday, March 1, also at 8:30 p.m. and in the Cajamurcia Culture Classroom, in the presentation of the book "Memoria de los 80", by its author, Alfonso Santiago, deputy director of the magazine 6 bulls 6, and with the intervention of right-handed Diego Urdiales, one of the winners of last season, who will reflect on the importance of that decade for the history of bullfighting, in which they left their rightful imprint whose classicism the Riojan can be considered faithful heir.

One of the phenomena of the decade of the nineties in the history of bullfighting, as was the irruption of women in the first line of bullfighting in a world then considered by some to be exclusively of men, is personified better than anyone in the killer of toros Cristina Sánchez, who will star along with Antena 3 TV journalist, Elena Salamanca, the "Cristina Sánchez: woman figure" gathering, in what can be considered one of the highlights of the cycle, which will also have the incomparable setting of the Mercado del Sol for its celebration on Saturday, March 2, starting at 8:30 p.m.
