The City Council has launched the Gypsy Development Plan for the tenth consecutive year, benefiting more than 100 Lorca from the Barrios Altos at risk of social exclusion (29/01/2019)

The participants, of which 51 will be in the line of educational monitoring and 54 in the improvement of employability and social aspects, will conduct workshops, monographic courses, leisure days, tutorials, modules and educational reinforcement, among other aspects

The Councilor for Family and Social Welfare of the City of Lorca, Fátima Mínguez, reported this morning that the Lorca Consistory has launched another year the Gypsy Development Plan project, which is framed within the Operational Plan and National Plan for Social Inclusion of Spain.

It is co-financed by the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality and the Ministry of Family and Equal Opportunities of the Government of the Region of Murcia.

Fátima Mínguez has indicated that "the objectives of the program, which will be in operation until May 31, are to raise the educational and socio-labor level of the participants in the project and their families, as well as to promote social and labor integration and incorporation. Through training and monitoring, the number of recipients is 105 participants: 51 in the line of educational monitoring and 54 in the improvement of employability and social aspects, and the main interventions are being carried out with the families of the Work Unit Social of San Pedro, San Juan and Santa Maria (Barrios Altos) with the realization of integrated itineraries of educational, social and labor promotion ".

The Councilwoman of Family has highlighted that "the novelties with respect to the past year are the realization of a Summer School for 30 boys and girls from 1st to 6th grade of Primary and a School of fathers and mothers, both developed in August of 2018 2 economic and healthy cooking workshops, a flamenco workshop for young people, a flamenco workshop for women, a recovery workshop for handicrafts: basketry and esparto, a computerization workshop for 21st century users, introductory courses in English; prospection for the employment of users and a pilot experience of the community work program for the improvement of Barrios Altos de Lorca ".

Mínguez has detailed that "within the main actions that are going to be developed within the Gypsy Development Plan, we can highlight the sessions of individualized tutoring, in material of competent work orientation with diagnosis and of the socio-laboral employability; 3 days of coexistence for participants; 3 monographic courses on social skills and communication for employment for participants of working age from 18 to 45 years, 3 days of leisure activities and free time on Saturday for 50 children and young people participating in the program, 3 basic networking workshops social, focused on employment and a workshop of social and domestic skills, with users who need it most ".

The Family Edil has added that "during these months will also be carried out different modules with different topics such as the work module:" Housing and habitat ", continuation of home visits to the residences of users, the module school absenteeism in it will again emphasize the coordination between the different primary and secondary education study centers where the children of PDG users study, the health module which will deal with issues such as the prevention of alcohol consumption and narcotic substances, sexual education for adolescents, food manipulator course, and participation in the Healthy Lorca Fair, the module for the promotion of sports activity for young people, the gender equality module from which actions aimed at education in equality among users ".

Fátima Mínguez has indicated that "this project also contemplates the realization of a program of animation to reading, the celebration of the International Day of the Gypsy People with a day of work for the knowledge of the initiatives for the gypsy town in Lorca, a program of school support "Clases On" for children of families from 6 to 16 years old that will be developed on weekends in the Social room of Santa María and 5 courses of digital literacy through smartphone, which will be carried out in collaboration with the Vodafone Spain Foundation and the El Gigante Initiatives Foundation, with a duration of 6 hours each ".

The Councilwoman of Family, finally, has stated that "the program has a budget of € 26,969.03, in addition to € 2,000 in concept of scholarships for assistance to programs and activities." The work team is made up of staff from the Department of Family and Social Welfare that have the collaboration of other municipal areas (Consumption, Culture, Youth, Citizen Security, ...) and private entities (Obra Social de San José de Calasanz, Neighborhood Association of Santa María, University of Lorca, Integrated Center of FP, Cazalla Intercultural and the Iniciativas El Gigante Foundation, among others).
