The Lorca neighborhoods of Cristo Rey and La Salud will connect with La Viña through the streets Journalistas and Rubén Darío (29/01/2019)

New pedestrian and recreational area of ​​the neighbors thanks to the 260 meters of the La Chata ravine

The urban renewal of the Lorca neighborhoods of Cristo Rey and La Salud will mean an improvement in mobility, accessibility and the definitive connection with the neighborhood of La Viña thanks to the continuity that will be produced by traffic between the streets Journalistas and Rubén Darío.

For this, the grade of the current road will be transformed and a concrete wall will be made that will allow entry to the parking lot of the duplexes of Journalists Street.

This is one of the novelties of the works of these neighborhoods that will involve a regional investment of 2,018,000 euros that includes the renewal of supply services, sanitation, rainwater, irrigation, lighting, low voltage, telecommunications and gas.

The works will conclude before the end of this year.

The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Patricio Valverde, accompanied by the Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, visited today the works of the neighborhoods of Cristo Rey and La Salud, which will contribute to enhance the economic activity and social life of the city, that will become neighborhoods "more functional, more commercial, better connected, more accessible and more dedicated to the welfare of the neighbor".

Patricio Valverde stressed the commitment of the regional executive with the 'new Lorca' which results in an investment of 346 million euros, of which 86.7 million are earmarked for the improvement of 20 neighborhoods, to which are added others more than 80 million for direct aid to those affected by earthquakes, through grants for reconstruction, repair, rent and equipment.

Another one of the most outstanding novelties of the project of urban regeneration of Christ the King and the Health will be the shoring of the ravine of the Chata that will turn it into a pedestrian zone and of recreation for the neighbors.

"Specifically 260 meters of rambla will be covered, by the execution of frames of 2.5 meters wide by two meters high", explained the counselor.

The realization of this action will entail that the current causeway of Torrecillas Street can be extended, which is of a single direction, in two directions, and the number of parking lots is increased.

In addition, a park area with sports facilities is generated at the end of the canalization.

Telemanagement and accessibility

The regional manager explained that the design of all the new actions has been based on the criterion of minimum cost of maintenance and operation, with the help of 'smart city' criteria that will boost lower costs, for example the inclusion of lighting in telemanagement.

In addition, the accessibility of generic form in the whole neighborhood is improved, obtaining widths of sidewalk that fulfill the current norm of 1,5 meters, and also the sidewalks of the highway of Granada will be finished.
