The PSOE calls for the regeneration of the streets of Portijico and Abellaneda in the neighborhood of San Cristóbal for their "calamitous state" (31/01/2019)

They ask that a participatory process be opened where neighbors collaborate by contributing their opinions and suggestions to give these main streets the comfort and the modern and functional aspect that their neighbors deserve.

They also consider that empty lots should be used to enable free parking areas and the existing architectural barriers should be eliminated.

The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, David Romera has claimed the Mayor and his government team of the Popular Party to be carried out during this year the beginning of works for the urban regeneration of the streets of Portijico and Abellaneda del Barrio de San Cristóbal, which are two of its main communication routes, which "are currently after years of municipal abandonment in a calamitous state, full of patches, patches, architectural barriers and where the circulation of vehicles has become chaotic with the elimination of dozens of parking spaces in nearby areas ".

Romera has indicated that "the neighbors of the neighborhood of San Cristóbal demand for years the remodeling of these streets, which currently offer a third-world aspect despite being a place of residence for several hundred families of Lorca, who also pay their taxes as any another from the center of the city, so they claim and have the right to have some services and comfortable, modern and functional streets "as has been done in other neighborhoods of Lorca.

The neighbors "feel forgotten, discriminated against and neglected by the local government because they do not understand how with the state in which these streets are located, they have not already undertaken or are undertaking the works for their regeneration and enhancement".

The mayor has highlighted the lack of interest that the PP has had in the regeneration of the streets of Portijico and Abellaneda in the San Cristóbal neighborhood.

On the one hand, Abellaneda street works were included in an agreement signed in May 2015 between the Lorca City Council and the Autonomous Community Development Council (Resolution of May 29, BORM No. 141 of June 22) , which specifies that such works should be completed on May 31, 2016, so "almost three years have passed and the project has not been submitted for adjudication", which has to do with the "bad" Planning in the forecast of the works, so we ask the Councilor of Works to clarify in what situation this action is, if it is going to be executed and if funding is available for it ".

With regard to the street Portijico, where a large number of families reside and despite its poor condition, "incredibly was outside this collaboration agreement, so it is not even planned their urban regeneration."

Therefore, from the PSOE we ask that you seek the necessary funding to undertake this important project.

You just have to walk around this way to check it and talk to one of your neighbors.

In addition, this street is the scene of the Procession of Silence, declared of International Tourist Interest and the Way of the Cross that depart every Friday of Lent from the parish and the Corpus Christi Procession, so the current image of abandonment and neglect "must disappear when being outside of what it has to be a modern and tourist city ".

David Romera has enumerated the multiple deficiencies suffered by the residents and users of the streets of Portijico and Abellaneda in the neighborhood of San Cristóbal: the roads are full of potholes, subsidence, boxes that make noise when passing vehicles, patches of different isolated works ;

the sidewalks there are many sections where these do not exist, are broken or full of plants, having also very narrow sections that force the pedestrians to get off the road;

there is a circulatory chaos because the circulation is not well regulated;

there is a huge lack of parking spaces in the face of the elimination of dozens of them in other regeneration works;

there are large differences and architectural barriers that are saved with steps;

lack of urban furniture and litter bins.

In Abellaneda Street, the growth of the trees is destroying the sidewalks, the scuppers are sunken and in an abandoned house, the electric and telephone service cables have been detached from the façade, remaining at the hands of children and other passers-by.

In Portijico, the night lighting is insufficient, there are missing scuppers that collect rainwater, there are architectural barriers and a large lot at the beginning of the street is open, which constitutes a risk.

Finally, Romera has asked the PP Government team "to be sensitive to these neighborhood demands" and to proceed to the regeneration of Abellaneda and Portijico streets by opening a process of citizen participation where neighbors can contribute their ideas and suggestions, at the same time as it has requested, to create new parking spaces in an area where most of the houses do not have a garage, that the City Council reaches an agreement with the owners of lots in the area so that these plots, once conditioned, have public use as free parking while not built in them, a proposal that the PSOE has made several times without getting a response.

Considers that once the regeneration of these streets has been undertaken, there will be a revaluation of all housing, becoming an attractive area for new investments and the arrival of young families, which will revert in the commercial and hospitality sector of the neighborhood .
