The objective of this action, carried out by the CARM, is to enable optimal driving and improve accessibility and safety conditions in this tourist and cultural area that is so important for the municipality, for which an expansion of the road is being carried out and it has stabilized the rocky massif

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, and the General Director of Roads of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, Francisco González Manzanera, have supervised this morning the improvement works that are being carried out on the southern access road of the Castle, or also known as Carretera de Murviedro, to enable optimal driving and improve the accessibility and safety conditions to this tourist and cultural area so important for the municipality.

Fulgencio Gil has stated that "the importance of this action, which is being carried out by the Ministry of Development and Infrastructure, is especially relevant and of maximum utility, since, among other improvements, asphalt and widens the alternative access up and down to the castle through Murviedro and towards the San José neighborhood, which also reinforces security in case of emergency, in particular, work is underway to expand the existing south access road, which is 1.3 kilometers long and will reach a maximum width of six meters ".

The Mayor of Lorca has indicated that "in parallel to this action, the stabilization of the rock mass is being carried out, and the fixation of the landslide of the northern zone has already been completed, through the construction of a retained concrete rock wall. 30 meters long and the channel of the creek in the eastern part of the slide, we are talking about having a secure communication and in conditions to the site of the greatest monumental monument of our historical heritage, such as the castle of Lorca, as well as its high neighborhoods. "

Gil underlined that "the project of a new Lorca, includes the improvement of the communications network that forms the backbone of our municipality." A strong, modern and future Lorca is to have roads and roads in the best conditions, and for this we are allocating more 60 million euros in recent times, a battery of interventions that contributes to the growth of our municipality and which we will continue to deepen in. The model of city that we are endowing Lorca with this new Lorca is projected in the time beyond the time horizon of 2025. It is an ambitious, exciting, serious project and of which we are all protagonists, and now we are not going to allow anyone to stop it ".

This action, which is already being completed, is one of the four phases of improving access to the Castle of Lorca that has a regional investment of 1.2 million euros.

In addition, the last phase of the works will focus on the access road to the Castle of Lorca and will consist of its conditioning and resurfacing, in order to adapt it to the volume of traffic it currently supports.

There will also be an improvement in signaling and drainage in this ring road.
