Ecologists in Action demands the dismantling of a telephone antenna (12/02/2019)

Ecologists in Action has addressed the City of Lorca, calling for the dismantling of a telecommunications base station antenna of 26 meters high, installed in the Vereda de la Palma.

This infrastructure has opened a file of urban infringement in the absence of permission of the post.

In addition, it lacks braces, with the consequent risk of falling from the pole due to intense gusts of wind.

On the other hand, there is no public information on whether or not a responsible declaration has been presented at the town hall.

The area, behind the sports complex Felipe VI, near where the logistic center of the municipal cleaning company Limusa is also built, is characterized as sectorized urbanizable land and is frequented daily by hundreds of people.

Ecologistas en Acción reports that there are electromagnetic compatibility problems in the environment.

There are neighborhood complaints about the fact that the tele assistance devices have interference, they stop working.

There is also another type of interference in televisions and mobile phones.

In this sense, the organization criticizes that there is no record of the immission values of pulsed microwave electromagnetic fields produced by said antenna.

There is also no proposed strategy to minimize emissions in an environment of 100 meters around the antenna, a requirement referred to in Royal Decree 1066/2001, of September 28, which approves the Regulation that establishes conditions of protection of the public radioelectric domain, restrictions on radioelectric emissions and measures of sanitary protection against radioelectric emissions.

The environmental organization recalls that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in Resolution 1815: Potential hazards of electromagnetic fields and their effects on the environment, of May 27, 2011, regarding the standards or threshold levels for emissions of electromagnetic fields of all types and frequencies, recommends that the ALARA principle be applied or "as low as reasonably possible", in relation both to the thermal effects and to the athermic or biological effects of the emissions or electromagnetic radiation.

It also points out that it is necessary to establish prevention thresholds for long-term levels of exposure to microwaves in all interior areas, in accordance with the Precautionary Principle, that do not exceed 0.6 volts per meter, and in the medium term reduce it to 0 , 2 volts per meter.

As this resolution indicates, it is necessary to determine the location of any new GSM, UMTS, WiFi or WiMax antenna not based solely on the interests of operators, but in consultation with local and regional authorities, local residents and citizens' associations. as affected.

The growing, chaotic proliferation of all kinds of telecommunications infrastructures has significantly increased electromagnetic pollution, that is, the exposure of the public to electromagnetic fields of radio frequencies and pulsating microwaves in a regular and constant manner.

The application of the Precautionary Principle and the ALARA / ALATA principle (the minimum technically possible emission), as well as safety distances to residential areas, and the restrictive control of the deployment of these infrastructures should be the basic criteria for the deployment of this type of infrastructure. of telecommunications.
