The mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has announced that this Wednesday, February 20, the recovery project of Coso de Sutullena will be presented.
It will be at 20:00 in the Culture Hall of CajaMurcia, on Pío XII Street.
As announced the first mayor, "we will present a project whose objective is not to recover the old Plaza de Toros, but to provide the municipality with a polyvalent space of cultural, social and leisure, a tool available to Lorca for, from a privileged space, multiply the cultural agenda and serve as support for value initiatives ".
The presentation will be attended by the Minister of Tourism and Culture of the CARM, Miriam Guardiola, and the technical drafters of the project.
Gil recalled that "the Plaza de Toros is a fundamental part of Lorca's culture, the work of architect Justo Millán, was inaugurated on June 29, 1892, and has a degree of protection, but more importantly, since June 2018 It is the property of all Lorca, now the time has come to put it in value and squeeze all the potential it has to integrate into the social and cultural life of Lorca, also in the commercial and hospitality aspect, from a privileged environment as it is the one that confers its situation to him between the avenues and the center of the city ".
The mayor said that "thanks to the investment of the Autonomous Community of more than 1.7 million euros, included in the Master Plan for the Recovery of Cultural Heritage of Lorca, not only we will recover this monument, but the project The intervention will start from the conservation stage of the building, with actions in structural elements, roofs, facades and enclosures, structural consolidation and stabilization of the building, sealing and cover works and elimination of humidity, as well as the conservation and restoration of its most singular or relevant architectural elements ".
"Once the phase of consolidation and recovery has been completed, the Coso will undergo a modernization that will expand the range of functions, relocating the vomitories, improving access, significantly increasing the comfort of the locations, both the layout and the box. , to turn it into a versatile, functional and very comfortable scenic space for all spectators, but beyond the actions of all kinds that it can host, the Coso de Sutullena will stand out for its versatility, housing commercial and hotel spaces that can be made use of the ring, which will increase the attractiveness of the same, but also facilitate its use by Lorca and Lorca.It will have the same way of a museum area with the value of some of the most characteristic dependencies of the square, as well as a place for the activities of the Bullfighting Club, among other resources ".
The mayor has encouraged those interested to "know first hand the project of what will be a revulsive for Lorca, an instrument at the service of the dynamization and projection of our municipality that will increase the resources and possibilities of the local agenda , with a clear projection beyond Lorca and the Region of Murcia ".
