1,600 Lorca schoolchildren trained in safety and prevention to travel by bus (21/02/2019)

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, together with Juan Francisco Gómez, General Director of the Orbitalia Group, and the Councilor for Education, Francisco Montiel, presented this morning the First Orbitalia Campaign for Safety and Prevention in the Transport of Minors, which during the last month and a half is training in safety techniques and prevention measures when traveling by bus to about one thousand six hundred boys and girls from all schools in Lorca.

In this campaign, that has been developed during the last weeks in our municipality and that previously took place in Águilas and Puerto Lumbreras, most of the students of the second year of Primary have participated, though not exclusively.

The children, between 7 and 8 years old, receive a small formative talk from the Orbitalia staff, where the various security measures that the buses have, the basic rules of behavior on board and some curiosities about the fun and fun are highlighted. these striking vehicles.

Subsequently, the students make a small tour where they put into practice what they have learned.

In addition, with the aim of involving students, on returning to the school they are given all the necessary material to participate in a drawing contest in which, filling the silhouette of a bus, they choose to win a trip to the entire class of the winner or winner to a destination of their choice in a vehicle specially printed for the occasion in the image and likeness of the winning drawing.

The mayor wanted to put in value "an initiative that allows young school students to be trained in basic safety issues, but in a fun and entertaining way." Safety in travel is very important, especially in children, so we must thank Orbitalia that launches an initiative like this that, in addition, can have a prize as large as a trip for the whole class on a bus in which the drawing of the winning student will be reproduced. "

In this sense Juan Francisco Gómez, said that "after many years observing serious deficiencies in the behavior of bus users in both school transport and discretionary, we decided to launch this campaign with the aim of teaching and raising awareness about the The correct way to behave in the face of a bus trip, no matter how long it may be.In our continuous search for improvement, we want that in extraordinary situations, people traveling by bus know how to react in the best possible way, just like our drivers and companions do it, who for many years have been receiving training at the highest level in this field. "

Gómez also highlighted the value of the campaign because "this initiative, in which more than 2,100 students have participated, stems from our commitment to the society that surrounds us and that has given us so much. other totally free actions such as 'Inclusive Trips', which allow diabetic students to travel with their colleagues receiving continuous attention from specialized medical personnel, or collaborations with different associations of all kinds, we seek to return to the community around us part of what it gives us.
