The PSOE reiterates its proposal to illuminate the monuments in a sustainable way with the aim of extolling the tourist and cultural attraction of Lorca (25/02/2019)

The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, María Antonia García Jiménez has reiterated its proposal to develop a project to "illuminate in a sustainable way" the monuments of the city, with the aim of "making Lorca a friendlier city and desired for cultural tourism. "

It is not the first time that the Municipal Socialist Group has transferred this proposal to the government team of the Popular Party, in order that Lorca ceases to be a "sad and dark" city.

García Jiménez says it is "possible" to enter into agreements with any of the foundations of renewable energy companies, in order to finance the lighting of works, sculptures and public buildings, as, he assures, "it has already been carried out with Saint Patrick or Santiago ".

"Lorca can not continue being a sad and dark city, it's no use having monumentality, if the City Council keeps them abandoned, or poorly lit."

"For this reason, we are committed to extol, through a project of sustainable lighting, monuments or sculptures that highlight our history, our roots and our city brand."

The socialist mayor recalled that since 2016, the PSOE has been insisting on the need to develop this type of initiative.

In fact, the PSOE came to present a study on the state of conservation and maintenance of sculptures, urban monuments and civil engineering works of Lorca, to claim the City of Lorca will carry out a project of lighting and sustainable maintenance of the same.

In this sense, they also proposed that the improvement of the urban landscape quality of our squares and historic places be influenced "not only in the city, but also in the county councils or districts".

Through its project, the PSOE detailed, in addition, the cost that would entail the installation and / or remodeling of solar lights or LED type, "less polluting and with real energy savings".

However, and judging by the state that continue to present, the Popular Party "rejected" this request, contributing to Lorca continues "off and back to its cultural and heritage potential."

The PSOE also raised this initiative for the start of the remodeling works that were recently carried out in the Plaza de Concha Sandoval, for the replacement of the pedestal sculpture tribute to the embroiderer, work of the Lorca artist, Lola Fernández Arcas.

In this sense, the mayor wanted to praise this sculptural work, through the installation of spotlights or projectors of light that lacked and, for this, counted on the advice of the sculptor, taking into account, how important it is for a creator the projection of light in the volumes of his works.

"However, once again, this Mayor and his councilors bet by way of ignoring our proposals, continuing with their lack of initiative and commitment to the enhancement of our heritage."
