In each of these routes, up to 15 previously registered seniors can participate, and they will take place on March 1, April 5 and a date in the month of May.

The councilor for Mayor Policy in the City of Lorca, Fátima Mínguez, together with the president of the Foundation Initiatives the Giant, Francisco Perán Albarracín, presented this morning the activity # PaseosConMayoresConecta2, aimed at senior citizens of our municipality.

This initiative consists of some walks through the historic center of Lorca for older people participating in the digital literacy workshops of the # MayoresConecta2 program of the Vodafone Spain Foundation.

This is an activity that will take place on a Friday during the months of March, April and May, between 11:00 and 13:00, with the objective of putting into practice what was learned during these workshops, which have been taught by the Iniciativas El Gigante Foundation in Lorca.

In each of these routes may participate up to 15 older people previously registered, and will be developed on March 1, April 5 and a date in the month of May yet to be determined but that we can anticipate that will coincide with the Week of the Major will have as a starting point the Plaza de Calderón, specifically the main access to the Guerra Theater.

This proposal for our elders is framed in the collaboration agreement signed between the El Gigante Initiatives Foundation and the Vodafone Spain Foundation.

Interested persons may register, until the Thursday before the activity, personally or by telephone at the headquarters of the Department of Policy for the Elderly or in the Foundation Initiatives El Gigante (C / Cueto, 10).

The Councilor for Senior Policy has explained that through the program "Major Connected" has had the opportunity to complete a battery of 35 courses in which training is offered to older people on the handling of mobile phones and their applications , some workshops that have been carried out in different municipal centers through the pensioner clubs.

We must indicate that among the modalities that are offered in this activity, initiation and learning is included in common and extended programs such as Facebook and WhatsApp.

We are talking about courses that include three sessions of two hours each.

The training workshops on the use of the smartphone aimed at adults, have been taught for the second consecutive year in Lorca by the Initiatives the Giant Foundation organized by the City Council and Vodafone Foundation.

The objective of these workshops is to bring the elderly the new smart mobile devices - smartphones and tablets - to reduce the digital divide between generations in rural environments and so that our elders can access new roads of opportunities to improve their quality of life.

The emergence of advanced mobile devices, on the one hand, and the emergence of mobile broadband, on the other, have generated a new communication environment that older people have to assimilate in order to benefit from new services that will help them live with greater personal autonomy and independence.

Hence the importance of these workshops, which allow to train the largest Lorca, facilitating access to the benefits provided by new technologies to enhance and promote active aging.

The workshops complement the commitment made by the City of Lorca to incorporate ICT in day to day, to promote active aging and reduce vulnerability in the group of older people.

For Francisco Perán, it is a great opportunity to bring new technologies to the elderly, especially in rural areas.

The use of mobile devices helps the elderly to increase their self-esteem, social connectivity and safety, thus improving their quality of life.

In these courses the elders know the enormous possibilities offered by mobile devices, smartphones and tablets, in aspects such as security, health, participation, access to the internet and the world around them in a much more accessible way and applications that can be used according to your tastes and preferences, especially for contact with family and friends.
