The City Council has already awarded the execution of the works, foreseeing the start of work during the next month.
The tasks, authorized by the CHS, will focus on recovering the original layout of the ravine and the natural height of its bed, which is currently artificially raised, hindering the natural flow of rainwater.
The Councilor for Rural Development in the City of Lorca, Angel Meca, reported that the City Council has awarded a new investment in districts that is aimed at improving the quality of life of residents, in this particular case of residents in Campillo and Purias.
We are talking about the intervention aimed at the remodeling and improvement of the channeling of a section of the Rambla de Biznaga.
This work, which includes an investment of 130,000 euros, will represent an important improvement that will directly benefit a total length of the stretch of 400 linear meters, spanning from the Águilas highway to the old highway with this same city.
It is a project financed entirely by the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, through the Plan of Districts and Districts.
The councilman of Rural Development has described that the works consist mainly in the excavation and conditioning of a canal on land to improve the drainage conditions of this area, starting with a double objective: on the one hand to canalize in an appropriate way the water flows rainwater derived from floodwaters in the event of heavy rainfall, and, on the other, optimize drainage conditions in the event that episodes of large avenues are recorded, a periodic circumstance in this area of ​​Spain.
Angel Meca has stressed that in the final area of ​​this channeling is planned to execute a work of passage to protect the sanitary conduction previously installed, so that the municipal investment allows the correct maintenance of the existing service line.
The councilman of Rural Development has explained, moreover, that it can not be ignored that the area has a natural endorreísmo increased by certain movements of land that have been carried out in different enclaves of the area and have caused noticeable interference in natural slopes from the rambla.
These bad practices have led to interference in the runoff, while diverting small or medium natural channels, generating water currents on public roads generally, fundamentally due, among other issues, to the closing of adjacent plots to these roads through walls.
The elimination of part of the existing irrigation and drainage channels has also worsened the response to floods.
Ángel Meca has announced that the work in this channel, for which the authorization of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation is available, is in line with the commitment expressed by the City Council to the residents of the area.
It is, in practical terms, to proceed to a drainage of the current firm of the ravine with the objective of lowering the level that it currently presents with respect to the Águilas highway.
In this way we will be able to recover the historical depth of the channel bed, avoiding future clogging and improving its evacuation capacity.
We must indicate that the municipal intervention includes the suppression of a transversal drainage that has not responded to the purpose with which it was installed at the time, which will accentuate the depth of the ravine, as well as its widening.
This action is in addition to the one planned to be carried out by the Autonomous Community to raise the height and evacuation capacity of the Águilas dual carriageway spans in order to reduce the "dam effect" that has been found to occur in avenues, and that will mean an investment of 1.2 million.
