The Brotherhood of the Curia opens the first square of Lorca with vertical garden (04/03/2019)

It is a new space for all Lorca with the Church of Santiago, which has been built by 36 students of the municipality beneficiaries of employment programs of the Department of Local Development.

It has new lighting, street furniture and trees.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, and the President of the Brotherhood of the Curia, Diego Domínguez, inaugurate this afternoon the new square with vertical garden dedicated to the Black Pass.

We are talking about a new space enabled in a green area in the historic center of the city.

It is, in particular, an area of ​​entertainment and leisure located in the street Villaescusa, parallel to the church of Santiago, on its street of the same name.

Fulgencio Gil has indicated that the plaza has a total area of ​​330 m2, and his works have been executed by the beneficiaries of the mixed employment and training program for older adults, launched by the Local Development Council.

This program consists of 36 people, 8 students and one monitor per workshop, which cover the specialties of coatings, gardening, plumbing and electricity.

The Mayor of Lorca has detailed that the works have consisted in the first place in performing the earthworks, by mechanical means, to carry out the level of the transit ground, demolitions and small factory works.

After that, the square has been paved with Romanesque paving stone and natural stone fences 6 centimeters thick.

In terms of public lighting, the enclosure has been equipped with three LED villa-type lantern luminaires in a 4.5 meter high cast-iron staff.

Fulgencio Gil added that as a novelty the square has the first vertical garden of the municipality, with an approximate area of ​​60 m2, with species according to the climate of the area, unique in our city for its characteristics.

The present project has also contemplated the planting of five Prunus pisardi or red plum tree, tree with high resistance to frost and drought and that does not require a contribution of too much water, as well as the putting into operation of an irrigation network that will serve the parterres and the vertical garden, employing effective water saving systems.

The First Edil has indicated that with regard to urban furniture, six 1.8 m wooden benches have been installed, distributed equally throughout the surface.

In order to keep the square clean, two mast bins have been placed.

In addition, an ornamental fountain with a vertical water curtain of 3.5 meters length and a height of 2.5 meters has been built.

In the base of the curtain, a rectangular glass of 4 x 1.2 mx 0.5 cm high has been made for the collection of the water, installing also a system of pumping and purification of the water.

Fulgencio Gil explained that we are talking about a green area in which we have been working for several years, and that now, thanks to the release of municipal economic resources we have been able to execute.

This is a priority action, given its particular positive impact on the area, since the purpose of creating it is to promote the revitalization of the city center, the historical cultural heritage and local commerce, improving conditions aesthetics of the old town of Lorca, as well as the environmental and social conditions of the neighbors.

The Mayor of Lorca, finally, said that this project initially contemplated an investment of 33,017.43 euros, which was used to acquire two buildings adjacent to the temple of Santiago;

the budget for the construction of this green area has been 60,000 euros. "

The origins of the present brotherhood of the Curia are in the antecedent of the brotherhood founded in 1725 under the name and invocation of Our Lady of Sorrows in the Passage of the Prendimiento, that got to have own procession the Holy Wednesday and in 1874 It was reorganized by the Bar Association and Attorneys.

When in 1940 the processions returned, the Brotherhood of the Curia had already left the presidency of Holy Wednesday since 1932 and then occupied the position of the "negro servitas" in the procession of Palm Sunday.

Since the Images of their Holders had also disappeared in the destruction of the first months of the Civil War, the Brotherhood was placed under the new invocation of the Most Holy.
