The Mayor and the President of Ucomur hold a working meeting with the employees affected by the closure of Coopbox to analyze the constitution of a cooperative (13/03/2019)

The common objective is to try to maintain as many jobs as possible, following the cooperative formula, as has been done in different municipalities of the Region in similar situations.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, held a working meeting this morning with workers affected by the closure of the company Coopbox, with the aim of analyzing the possibility of establishing a cooperative that allows the maintenance of the largest number of jobs possible.

It is a feasible alternative for which the First Edil requested the presence of the President of the Union of Cooperatives of the Region of Murcia, Ucomur, Juan Antonio Pedreño, with the aim of having first-hand advice from an expert in the constitution of this type of entities that offers the point of view of the experience that Ucomur has accumulated throughout its years of work.

Fulgencio Gil has considered that the meeting held this morning is a first and important step in this regard.

We are talking about a good initiative to begin to analyze and study the possibility of establishing a cooperative that saves a large part of the jobs of this company.

From the City of Lorca we will give all the support we can, putting all our resources for this matter, because there is nothing more important to fight and find new options that allow us to keep as many jobs as possible after the closure of Coopbox .

It is a firm whose production is based in our municipal area after more than 20 years of uninterrupted work thanks to a human and productive capital that we have to try to save.

The formation of a cooperative is a viable option and guarantees, a mechanism that has allowed many companies to save jobs, which is the common goal of all.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, also established a few months ago a meeting to this effect with the general director of Labor Relations of the CARM, Nuria Fuentes, and the director of INFO, Joaquín Gómez.

The First Edil has stressed that he will maintain his direct dialogue and permanent attention with those affected, since he shares with them his concern.

This City Hall is with its people, and we will help in each and every one of the steps that are taken.

The Mayor has said that I am concerned about the workers and their families.

Those affected are very involved in their work, proud of their task, committed to what they consider their factory, constituting a model of improvement as employees, who do not deserve in any case that they have been led to this situation.

My commitment is with the workers, who from the City Council, and personally by this Mayor, we will continue to help in everything they need, whether advising, mediating or what they deem appropriate.

This issue requires the commitment of all administrations, local, regional and national, and has to remain oblivious to political interference and opportunism.

We are talking about a complicated situation for many families in Lorca, and we will be by your side at all times, sharing your concern, uncertainty and concern.

Lorca is going to support them, and they have to feel that support.

Our interest is maximum to help workers to keep their jobs.
