Equimur hosts 400 horses in its 24th edition (14/03/2019)

The International Fair of Purebred Horses of the Region of Murcia (Equimur) hosts around 400 horses equine in its 24th edition.

The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Miguel Ángel del Amor, attended the opening of this event today, which brings the world of the horse closer to both professionals and citizens in general.

"The Region is a great admirer of the equidae and Equimur is a great opportunity to create in our land a meeting point of the sector," he said.

In this room, you will be able to access a commercial exhibition of the horses, a morphological contest of Spanish purebred horses, another of dressage, cowboy dressage and high school.

In addition, attendees can witness competitions, conferences and different exhibitions.

The Region accounts for 2,814 equine farms with about 13,000 equines.

Of these, about 550 are dedicated to the breeding of purebred Spanish horses, with a census of 4,000 breeders.

The rest of the farms are non-commercial and with animals that are not purebred Spanish.

The municipalities that have more facilities are Lorca with 578 registered farms;

Murcia (406), Cartagena (273);

Puerto Lumbreras (125), Caravaca de la Cruz (115) and Torre Pacheco (112).

Del Amor highlighted the "great hobby of the horse" in the Region of Murcia, since "the equestrian sector is a way of complementing the agrarian income contributing to the development of the rural environment, to the economy, to the establishment of the population and to tourism , among others, "he continued.

The Region hosts different livestock encounters, highlighting the annual celebration of two national competitions, as well as other regional competitions in Fuente Álamo, Puerto Lumbreras, Caravaca de la Cruz and the horse cross fair in Lorca, among others.

In addition, the Region has two declared events of International Tourist Interest, such as Holy Week in Lorca and the Caravaca de la Cruz Horses of Wine, the latter also declared a Site of Cultural Interest with an ethnographic character, where the figure of the horse has a special role

In addition, several pilgrimages and horse races are held, along with the competitions that take place throughout the year.
